An ageless game

Zack sat with his friends in the social room waiting for Brandon and Maddie’s arrival so they can start Hannah’s game. Zack looked around at his friends, but two wouldn’t meet his eyes, Chloe looked slightly annoyed at him, while Heather was simply looking every but at him. She sat beside Kurt who would flash him a smile every once in a while to salt his wounds a little more. Heather didn’t know that Zack had seen her and Kurt in the shower together unless Kurt told her, but he guessed she wouldn’t be so calm if she had known. “Oh look who it is! It’s about time.” Kurt said as Brandon and Maddie walked in the room. Maddie was as confident as ever while Brandon was a total wreck, poor guy having a sister like that, Zack thought sending a smile to his friend.

As everyone sat down in a circle on the ground, Hannah stood up and announced her intention to play truth or dare for the night. There were mixed feelings going around the room, as the knowledge of what quickly happens when such a game is played, sunk into everyone’s mind. Before coming to the cabin, Zack would’ve been against putting himself in such a position, but now, he just wanted some memories off his mind, and what better distraction was there? He looked around and saw Heather and Kurt’s ecstatic expressions, they deserve each other, Zack mentally spat out. Some of the others weren’t so enthused, Brandon looked pretty worried while Chloe looked like she wanted to roll up into her shell and stay there for the duration of the game. “Everyone for!” Hannah called a vote to see who actually wanted to play, and surprisingly all hands went up, although a couple hesitantly. “Oh man this is going to be fun!” Hannah said as she skipped to the fridge and got out a bottle of beer and brought it back with her to the circle unlidded. “Everyone take a sip and pass it on. We need the bottle empty to spin it.” Hannah said taking the first swill and passing it on to her left. The process continued until Vicky passed it over to Zack with a slight blush on her face with the thought of sharing saliva with all her friends. Wouldn’t think that would get her blushing after what she did in the cave, thought Zack as he took the bottle from Vicky and took as much as he could hold in his mouth before swallowing and wiping his mouth of any that made its way out of his mouth.

“Tough day Zack? Why don’t you ask Heather to give you a kiss and make it better?” Kurt said from across him with that smile of his that rises the hair on your neck. Heather looked with a worried expression on her face between Zack and Kurt, she doesn’t know that I already know. Kurt is going to lord this over me all night if I don’t just admit that I know, Zack thought.

“No thanks. I prefer my girls less susceptible to the influence of jerks.” Zack said taking another gulp of the beer before passing it to his sister.

“What’s that supposed to mean?!” Heather practically shrieked forcing the circle to close into two semi circles as people got in the middle of the two sides to keep them apart.

“I don’t think you want everyone else to know, do you Heather?” Zack asked seeing the worry on her face finally evolve to understanding, she knew that he knew.

“Ahem! Well now, let’s leave the theatrics for the game!” Hannah said trying to get everyone back under control. Eventually the circle took its original shape again as the two sides made no move towards each other. Zack noticed with some pleasure that Heather had moved a bit away from Kurt and was no longer looking at him. On the other side of the coin however, Kurt was staring bloody murder right at him, this game is going to suck!

Taylor took here sip finishing up the bottle before handing it back to Hannah. “Keep it calm, you’ll only make things worse for yourself if everyone knows.” Taylor whispered into his ear.

“Ok, let’s start the game.” Hannah said excitedly as she spun the bottle and everyone watched as the bottle spun towards who would get to ask the first truth or dare. Zack watched in horror as the bottle started to slow down, and Zack’s expression was opposite of Kurt’s as he smiled when the bottle stopped pointing at him.

“Hmm, who should I ask?” Kurt pretended to muse while smiling wolfishly right at Zack.

“Wait! Don’t you need to spin again to find out who you ask?” Zack asked desperately.

“It doesn’t really matter does it Hannah?” Kurt asked the girl in question as Zack looked at her hopefully.

“We can play the way Kurt has started, it doesn’t matter.” She gave her judgement.

“Here I thought you were on my side.” Zack said sullenly.

“I’m on the side of what makes this game more interesting, and this certainly takes the cake. Oh, I’ll add a rule here, you can’t truth or dare someone twice in a row, but the bottle can land on you multiple times in a row.” Hannah said to which everyone nodded.

“Ok, Zack truth or dare?” Kurt asked but right as Zack was going to give his resigned answer, the doorbell rang.

“Who could that be?” Taylor asked.

“It’s got to be all the Gods who have listened to my prayers.” Zack said looking up to the sky.

“It has only put off the inevitable buddy. It must be my sister.” Kurt said as he got up to get the door. Heather jumped up as well after hearing who it might be. As the two of them made it to the door the rest of the friends pondered what Kurt just said.

“Did anyone else know that Kurt had a sister?” Gavin asked around.

“No, but we have only known him for a couple of days, there’s probably a lot about him that we don’t know.” Lisa said. If only they knew how much I knew about him, but even then I still don’t know what his motivations are, Zack thought. Zack heard chatting and laughing from the front door as Heather met her other cousin.

“Anything left in that bottle?” He asked Hannah who looked back at him with an amused smile.
