You'll join the garrison

Fighting is what you know best, why complicate things? After considering the matter for a while, you tell the governor your choice. "Ah, good, very reasonable. You'll start as a lieutenant, but our garrison really is quite small. You need only apply yourself and you'll be at the top of the ladder in no time" he says with a beneficent smile. Later that day he leads you to Colonel Santiago, top ranking commander of Santo Domingo's forces. "This is the man I was telling you about Santiago. Looks to be a good man for the job, eh?" the governors says, patting your shoulder amiably. Santiago is a tall, hard-faced man, not unlike many of the military men you've come in contact wit over the years. He looks you up and down, scrutinizing every detail. "He looks fine, but the true measure of a man is his action. Hopefully he shall have chances enough to prove himself. Until then, I'll accept you on as a lieutenant." You thank him profusely until he holds a hand up. "Enough of that. Come on, I'll show you to your quarters." The two of you bid your goodbyes to the governor, and the Colonel leads you into the small fort. It is within walking distance of town, rather quaint really. He opens the door to a small stone chambers, with only the barest in furniture. "If you'd like to fix it up you may, we haven't had an occupant in here for a while. There's nothing going on at the moment, so bring your things at leisure and get to know the men. I'll assign you to a platoon later. Dismissed." Santiago walks away with the brisk, heavy pace of a veteran soldier.

You spend the rest of the day bringing your humble belongings into the little room and socializing with the soldiers. Your main concern is not having enough to do; from what you're gathered the garrison of the small town is rather sleepy, only occasionally called to duty. You just hope that you'll have enough chances to prove your worth and rise through the ranks.
