You're shivering in a thick wrap, sitting in a chair in front of the little fireplace in a side room of Miss Wormwood's Chamber of Horrible Curatives, better known as the Infirmary.

"Nothing that helps," you say. "I think she's playing with me. Fay, tell Pip, see if she can get Miss Wormwood to spring me. Any excuse, whatever. Pip's a Prefect, that'll help."

A few hours later, you're hobbling out of the Infirmary on Pipistrelle Clawson's arm.

"You did me a big one taking Whiptail's lashing for me," Pip says. "Least I could do was to make up a story to get you out."

"I wasn't getting better with all those ghastly purges," you say. "So you're Oscar's golden girl now?"

"Haha, hardly," Pip says. "And if he finds out about this, he'll pull my badge and I'll get a lashing anyway. But no, he's on about something else. His golden girl had a Sending thrown back at her, and he had to banish some sort of horrid tentacle thing off of her. She'll be out for the term. So that's the bat in his belfry now. Everyone's getting a self-defence refresher."

Your face lights up with a grin. "Fay got that sending. I messed myself over, banishing it. Serves HER right she got it back in the face."

"Oooh, not just the face," Pip says. "They say it was up every hole, ears and nose included."

You have a faint shudder of sympathy, but brush it away. That had been meant for Fay. You clench your jaw, then take a breath. "Up the arse?"

"Two up the arse," Pip says. "Ah, here we are, House Leontes. I am forbid to pass this threshold. Now go tell Fay what you did."

"I will," you say. "Thanks for getting me out."

"We're even," Pip says. "Take care."
