Fork in the Road
Embarking on the road out of Joshua Springs the three began their journey. Looking back Jane saw village as busy as it always had been. She will miss stealing food and other rare objects to share with her grandfather. With all those old stories past new stories are to emerge ones that her grandfather had told. It stirred her insides, and her heart aflutter of what is to come.
Digging into her horse that was an only a handful of years old with smooth golden brown fur from head to tail. Only one spot on it showed a little black on the back right leg. She named him Eoh for a famed horse her grandfather had told stories of an elf who rode a horse during the last great war that saved his life twice on two different occasions. Her grandfather Robert rode a simple horse similar to hers with a few extra spots of black on the body named Ansir named after an old god man once believed in.
Faervel soon caught up with them as she had taken the lead an hour ago to find our first stopping point. Unaware what was to come Jane at least knew of a handful of small farms and villages on the outskirts that bridged Joshua’s Run to the rest of the world. Beyond that she knew only stories.
Her parents had passed when she was ten during a major fire that had engulfed their home one night. She had happened to be at her grandfathers that night listening to the old stories of his adventures. Since she can even remember had been fascinated by his adventures of far away lands. Wishing one day she too could travel far beyond Joshua’s Run beyond the furthest farm she knew of. Today she would soon do so.
“We have a choice there is a farm down the lane that will lead us directly through some unmarked marshlands or we take Kinner’s Fort where we take a riverboat. Either way will lead us toward Aric’s Run within two-three weeks tops” Faervel asks Robert and Jane as she sits on her horse in front of us waiting for our answer. Robert turns to his granddaughter for a response.
Jane realizing it would be her adventure to the outside world knowing of the marshlands Faervel is talking about was Isengrimm Marshes. Ghost stories the locals preached about to young people to scare them away. She had the audacity once to travel in there with a few friends in broad daylight to catch some bullfrogs. Nothing scary about the place, but there was no way she would travel in the night in there knowing the landscape.
Then there is Kinner’s Fort. Originally was started as the first settlement in this region many ages ago and has been updated and improved over the years. It contains a few black market traders, but mostly good people doing honest work. Several lumber workers live there and a few river people who do business traveling people to all sorts of locations beyond her scope of knowledge to the territory.
