Maria spent the morning deep in research in her office, pulling out every piece of information she could as she felt the pressure of time on her.

The question of what “Club Kitsune” was was easy to answer. It was a swingers club in the downtown district of the city. Not the kind of place that would have a dog hanging around, which meant that collar had been placed for her to find. She wondered if they had hoped she would just wander blindly into the club for them.

It seemed unlikely, especially as she started to read up on the meaning behind the name. It was japanese, tied to the Shinto traditions as far as she could tell. A type of trickster supernatural fox spirit. The more she read into the name the more she realised she was heading down a blind alley, even if a Kitsune had somehow managed to make its way to the city the Black Files she had on them suggested that they tended to go in for short term plans. There were no records that she could fined of one ever enacting a plan that took more than a day to come to fruition.

So the name meant nothing and even looking into the owners of the club didn’t turn up much. A polish migrant who had opened up shop five years ago. For all she could find out about him he was as clean as they came, aside from running the swingers club.

Whatever was using the dogs was snatching girls to give birth to something and she had been picked out to be the next proud mother.

Something had to be done and it had to be done now.

She spent the latter half of the day placing phone calls and laying out the groundwork for dealing with whatever she might face when she walked through that door.

By the time everything had been set in motion the sun was starting to set. So, with her hand on her knife the whole way, Maria made her way home for the night.
