Chapter 8

Morning? She didn’t actually… do anything, did she?
Morning. Just a dream.
As Johanna’s eyes adjusted to the dim light filtering in, she realized, with a moment of fear, that she had rolled over in the night, and spent some amount of time nestled against Bone’s muscular body, resting her head on the very arm she had been eyeing last night. Bone, for his part, hadn’t seemed to move during the night, and as Johanna sat up and tossed aside the coat they’d slept under, she was relieved to see that his pants were still on, as was all of her clothing. That strange dream, the memory of which was still bouncing around her head, clear as day (“Don’t stop now,” she heard again), was just a dream. His cock was hard, though, and straining against his trousers. Fairly common for men in the morning, she mused. Johanna eyed it for a long moment. It was a rather large specimen, but then, Bone was a large man. She glanced up at Bone’s face, and blushed when she saw his eyes were open, but relaxed as she noticed that, while open, his eyes were rolled up, focusing on the nothing behind his eyelids, and he had the slow, deep breathing of a sleeper. She’d heard of people who sleep with their eyes open, and while she’d never seen it before, she was not surprised to learn that Bone was one of those people.
Johanna rolled up off the ground and pushed a hand through her thick, slightly tangled hair. She needed a drink. Something strong would be ideal, of course, but she’d have to settle for a shell-cup full of water. She grabbed the cup and stepped outside. The rain had stopped, and the sun was shining, but everything was still rather wet, and she easily filled her cup from water dripping off the side of their shelter. She had two large, cool cups full before tossing the cup back inside the tent and taking another look at their surroundings.
The vegetation was thick and green, and extended further than she could see. Her time walking along the beach and now peering into the jungle made it impossible to determine how large this island was, save that it was, in fact, rather large. The island seemed to naturally slope up as one moved inland, but it was impossible to tell how much. A high hill or mountain would be useful in gauging the island as a whole. Johanna was considering an expedition inland when a powerful hand clapped onto her shoulder from behind. She jumped at the sudden contact, then let out a long, slow breath as she remembered her unlikely partner, who had evidently rejoined the world of the waking.
“Hello, dear. Did you have pleasant dreams?” Johanna failed to suppress a blush at the pirate’s question, making her thankful he was behind her and unable to see her face. “I slept well enough, Bone,” She answered, pulling away from his grip and heading back into their little shelter, avoiding having to look at the man, who was doubtless smiling. Johanna emerged a moment later, shoving what was left of their food at the large man, whom had irritatingly donned Johanna’s coat when he got up. She would ask him to give it back to her, but the sun was already bright, and she’d probably bake wearing it on top of her clothes. And besides, without the coat she’d be exposed to a lot more of his bare flesh, and it was already hard enough to keep last night’s dream at bay.
“Eat up, and pack the rest into the coat. We’ve got things to do today.”
Deeper into the jungle? Or something else?
