Chapter 11 by Fiend21 Fiend21

What to do in your free time?

Play

"I'll sign up for the play," you say. "I already promised Caoimhe I would."

"Ooh, who's Caoimhe? Has someone got a girlfriend?" Lukas grins.

"She's just a friend who's also a girl. I've seen enough TV shows to know there's a difference."

"Don't go letting monogamy drag you down. It's like going to the best restaurant in the world and dining on bread sticks."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," you reply.

"Whatever, DiCaprio," he says, his eyes drawn away to a hot girl with short red pigtails and a nice ass walking past. "I'm going to go have the main course. The theater's just down the hall."

"Cheers," you say, turning and heading off.

You hurry down the hall, soon arriving in the theater, where various girls sew costumes, paint backdrops or set up lighting rigs and the like. Caoimhe and Beth almost immediately spot you, hurrying over. Caoimhe eagerly jumps up and embraces you in a tight hug.

"Oh goody, you came!" she squeals eagerly. "I was so worried you wouldn't! Thank you!"

"Sure thing," you smile.

"You are here to audition, right?" Beth asks.

"Uh, sure, yeah. What are we doing?"

"Aladdin," Caoimhe says. "We had to pick a Disney film."

"Aladdin... it's been a while since I've seen it, but doesn't that have a male protagonist, a male best friend genie guy, a male sidekick monkey, a male bad guy, a male parent for Jasmine, and one girl? Oh, and there's a male parrot."

"Yeah," Beth nods. "So?"

You make a sweeping gesture around the theater.

"I'm the only dude here. You don't exactly have a lot of male talent."

"What Disney film can you pick that isn't all males with a female love interest?" Beth asks.

"Uh... Frozen, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, the Rapunzel film, the one with the hot Scottish girl, Inside Out..." you say, mentally ticking off movies in your head.

"Damn, maybe there was better choices."

"This is why I never should've let you decide," Caoimhe sighs. "It doesn't matter, we've already bought a lot of the props. Too late to turn back now. Goddammit, Beth, we're going to be the worst show runners in history."

"I'm sure it'll be fine. For most of history, female roles were just played by men in drag because no one thought women could act," you say, before pausing in thought. "Maybe that's why theater's so gay."

"Theater's not gay!" Caoimhe says.

"Oh yeah, sure, sorry," you nod. "So, do I have an audition to be in this play, or do yo ...?"

"Are you willing to show up to practice?" Caioimhe asks.

"Whatever, sure."

"Then you've got the part. We need an Aladdin," Caoimhe nods.

"Cool. Do you need my address so they know where they'll need to send the Oscar, or...?"

"Shut up," Caoimhe smiles. "Beth, can you check on whoever's printing scripts? I'll introduce Jack to the cast."

"Sure thing," Beth nods, heading off.

"Come on, Jack," Caoimhe says.

You follow her off to the side of the room, where the actors are chatting. There's a small, skinny girl wearing the school tracksuit with a pony tail going directly up from the top of her head, who grins and waves at you. The second is a cute but chubby brunette, who smiles at you. Then there's a very, ugly girl with a hooked nose. The last one is actually Middle-Eastern looking, with bright eyes and dark, beautiful skin and a very pretty face, with her long black hair cascading down.

"Hey guys, this is Jack, he's going to play Aladdin. Jack, this is Katie, Debbie, Barb and Gali."

"Hi, I'm Katie, I play Abu," the small one says eagerly.

"That's the King, right? Or Sultan. Jasmine's dad."

"It's the monkey," she smiles, somewhat embarrassed. "I guess it's my size."

"Oh, cool. I guess you'll be my sidekick. Will you wear only a hat and vest for your performance, then?"

"Maybe," she winks.

"I'm the Genie," the chubby brunette says. "Oh, and I'm Debbie."

"Cool," you nod.

The ugly one's thin lips curve upwards in a smile as she shakes your hand.

"I'm Barb, I'll be playing Jafar. Sorry, I have to go get my costume set up, I'll talk to you later," she says, walking off.

"Yeah, I'm Gali. I'll be playing Jasmine. I want to make it clear, we're not kissing in practise, only on the actual day, got it?"

Terrific, she's a bitch.

"Fuck, sure, whatever. Pleasure to meet you all. So, is it time to act?" you ask.

"Uh... well, the background's not ready... the music's not ready... the scripts aren't ready..." Caoimhe says awkwardly. "Just mingle, learn names, got it?"

"Sure thing, Boss," you say, giving a salute.

Well, time to find someone to chat with. Katie and Debbie have already headed off to to talk to the girls painting sets, leaving your options as Caoimhe, Beth and Gali.
