Call Gavin

“But Zack, how are we gonna get back when the lake is all fogged over from the rain,” Heather asked as she rolled up the air bed and put it in the boat.

“Easy. Since the lake doesn’t have a lighthouse, we’ll just have to build one,” he replied as he fished out his cell phone. It took him a few minutes, but he was able to put a call through back to the cabin. “Hey Gavin! I need you to do me a favor, Buddy. The lake is completely fogged over and we can’t see a damned thing. In the trunk of my car, I have a couple of fire logs. Could you put one of the grills out on the dock and light the log for me? Thanks dude.”

As he put his phone away, Zack looked at his girlfriend and smiled. As she loaded the airbed and sleeping bags into the canoe, Zack placed his hand about a foot over the fire pit. Still feeling a bit of heat, he grabbed the bailing jug from the canoe, filled it with water, and dumped it over the coals. When he was satisfied that there was no more burning embers, he pulled the tent stakes out of the ground.

“I wish we could stay out here longer,” Heather moaned.

“Me too, Baby. But our friends are waiting for us back at the cabin and we don’t want them to think we ran off and got hitched,” he laughed.

In a few short moments, Zack had the tent folded up and back in the bag. After placing it in the canoe with the rest of the gear, he went back to the fire. Despite all the water he had dumped on it since he and Heather had finished breakfast, there was still heat coming off what was left of the logs. After dumping three more jugs full of water on the fire, he poured the remaining ice out of the cooler onto it as well. He then put the pot of dirt in the cooler and packed it into the canoe.

“Well Babe time to head back. One more picture before we go?” Zack said as he wrapped his hands around Heather and smiled. With a push of a button, the pair had one final photo from their first date. Not being satisfied with just one, Zack planted his lips on Heather’s and snapped several more. The lovers then pushed the canoe closer to the edge of the water and Heather climbed in. When she was in position, Zack pushed the bow into the water and Heather used her paddle to hold the canoe in place while Zack got in. Once he was set, he used a long staff to push the canoe out into the water. With tears in their eyes, the young lovers left their island paradise and began the trip back to shore.
