Examine the shape of the tunnels and try to find which way they were dug from

You stand in the intersection, looking over the shape of the caves, the angle of the corners, It seems like three of the tunnels fan out from the fourth, so you start travelling to where it seems the digging started from, and hopefully the way out.

It seems more likely this plan will work as you continue. The cave seems to be slowly growing as you go on. However you suddenly find yourself stepping onto smoothed stone as you reach an area with more ornate carving. A rectangular hallway connects abruptly with the organic winding path you had been following.

Thinking back you were travelling up most of the time, but the cave did wind around. You think you might be at a higher floor of the same dungeon. You see four doors in the hallway. You curiously try to peek into the first one on your right, but it's dark inside. You don't know who or what could be in there, so you hesitate to open the door wider or use your torch to light the inside.

Before you can think more carefully however you hear approaching footsteps. It seems you need to decide what to do fast.
