Chapter 135 by bastardlydastard bastardlydastard

Do you meet him?

Yes

A few hours later you stand upon the rocky shore of the river Kaelas, the autumn chill harsh against your flesh. You had left your armor in your quarters, under Kyra's guard, in a bid to avoid drawing too much attention to yourself. You still carry your sword, however, and you grip it tightly in it's sheath as you wait.

Suddenly, without warning, you feel the cold edge of a dagger press against your throat.

"It seems I was wrong about you." A woman's voice says from behind you.

"Oh? How is that?" You ask, careful calm in your voice.

"I thought you were smart." The woman replies, her voice low. "You shouldn't have come alone."

You chuckle at that. "You give yourself too little credit."

At your words you hear the distinctive scrape of an arrow shaft being drawn across a bow.

"Release him." Siris says.

The blade slowly retreats from your throat and you spin to face your would-be assassin.

She is a study in unremarkability. She is of average height, and her build is unimpressive. She is pretty, but not so much so as to be distinctive. Her breasts are neither large nor small, and her dark hair and eyes are anything but eye-catching.

Currently she stands with her hands up in a gesture of surrender, the dagger on the ground next to her.

"It would seem that I'm a better judge of character than I thought." She says, her tone wry.

"You knew the letter was a fake. What tipped you off?"

"Lysander doesn't call me lord. No one does."

She hisses, admonishing herself. "Should have known better."

"Well, it doesn't matter now. Why do you want me dead?"

"I dont. Actually, I want to help you."

You blink. "You have a funny way of showing it."

She smiles at that, and the expression transforms her face from forgettable to stunning.

"I'm on the side of the winner." She explains. "If you fell into my trap and I could kill you, I would, and then I would make off with the reward Estara's offering for your corpse. But you didn't fall for it, and now its in my best interest to help you."

You nod, seeing her point. "Fair enough."

"So, how about I help you, and you let me live?"

"How would you help me?"

"How about I give you fort Arlheim?"

You glance to Siris, nodding, and say: "Your offer is intriguing. We will speak on it more."

As you finish speaking, You grab hold of her arms, and restrain her while Siris pulls a black cloth bag down over her head.
