Chapter 7 by Genericc616 Genericc616

What type of fighting style do you choose?

Rogue.

You sit and think for a moment, trying to work which skills you learnt while trying to best your step brother, and some of the other boys you met in the nearby homes and hamlets. You think about your slender frame, about times you squeezed your way out of headlocks, and challenged your brother to a fist fight, the one where he cockily told you to take a free swing, and you did, one swift foot straight into his crotch, it might not of been fair, but then again when fighting someone which almost half a foot taller, and almost one and half times your weight who can spare the time to fight fair, besides the other abilities might help you get out of a jam or two which is always an invaluable tool.

"Well I'm not exactly winning any contests of strength, and I've relied on my wits and nimbleness in the past and it's served me well." You say after some consideration, as Thomas nods sagley at you.

"You don't have to tell me about not having the right shape for a warriors lot." Thomas says with a soft chuckle as he takes a moment longer to size you up.

"Well I wasn't very good a music, dancing yes, but this elf wasn't blessed with a melodic voice, and I've not had much practice with a bow." You say as you think about the time you almost shot your friend as they taught you how to shoot a bow.

"Ah so you thinking of being a rogue type then." Thomas says with a wry smile as he looks you over once more and nods. "Well you looks like your the right build, slender, light on your feet, how good are you with your hands?" Thomas asks as he examines your slender digits.

"Awfully personal question to ask a girl you just met." You say with a cheeky grin, as you wiggles your fingers nimbly.

"Hah well your definitely have the humor, keep ahold of that, you might need that when times are dark, and the chips are down, to borrow a card game term." Thomas says as you smile and watch your own fingers as your try and move them in what you think to be dexterous movements.

"Well thank you, but what know, I'm guessing there's more to it that buying the weapons and armor." You say as you look back at Thomas as he reaches under the bar, and rummages for a few moments, before hauling up a small metal box.

"You'll be needing to speak to and old companion of mine, Goes by the name of trixie, not her real name but a kinda of heros title that she wore with pride, earned it on account of how many break outs she managed in her day, a regular magician when it came to the art of escaping." Thomas says as he takes out and old faded piece of paper, on it you see a picture of a much younger looking halfling, who has a striking resemblance to Thomas, and next to him is a slender human crouching down with her arm around him, you notice her hand is in a pouch in the halflings side, as she smiles innocently.

"Is that her?" You ask as you examine the black and white paper, it was easily the most lifelike picture you'd seen painted.

"Aye that was fifth teen years ago now, never did get that ring she's lifting in the photo back." Thomas says nostalgically as he looks and laughs at the photo.

"Photo?" You ask curiously wondering if it was some kind of magic.

"Aye some Mage specialising in machinery brought it with him to a festival some cities over, fascinating device able to preserve an image of something better than any artist could dream, still many folk prefer the complimentary exaggerations of the well paid painter if you catch my drift." Thomas says as he affectionalty taps a fairly nasty looking scar on his neck, one you hadn't really noticed until now.

"So will your friend teach me?" You ask hesitantly as you look at the picture again, at the slender short haired woman with that gleeful expression on her face.

"She will for a price, but I'd save you effort and leave your gold here, she could easily grab more in a single night, no give her this box and tell her it's from me, and she should show you some basics, from there on she'll test you, and it'll be tough, but she's the best teacher you can find this side of the mountains." Thomas says with a smile as he hands over the heavy metal box.

You thank Thomas for his time, and tell him you'll be back later, as you retrieve your adventures pack emptying it of all items, and putting the metal box inside it, as well as a map, and a lunch that Thomas made you. without the extra gear the kit resembled a neat small leather backpack, as you follow the directions Thomas gave you as you consulting the map when needed. Soon you arrive at the unassuming house away from the markets, with few people wandering about, you take a moment to compose yourself and then ready to knock the door, when a voice distracts you.

" I wouldn't do that if I were you, I hear the person that lives there has a mean temperament." A cloaked figure says as they lean against the wall.

Who is the person in the cloak?
