Chapter 10

Have a tour or get to work?
Your First Job
You decide to take a pass on Mr.Dirt's offer and instead move over to the bar to examine the three jobs he laid out for you. All the while your boss simply stands a few meters away, looking around his, rather empty, theatre with a cheerful smile on his face like he enjoys this strange peace as he slowly sips his wine from his, quite expensive looking, glass.
'What a weirdo. Still, at least all I have to do is one of these contracts before it's sweet freedom for me!'
You think to yourself happily before realising what you just thought is the basic premise of this entire dark guild existing, to allow it mages to act, speak, or think as they want. A very open policy that you would soon find out meant wide array of people called this guild their home, but for now you focus on the three jobs before you on the polished oak bar.
Each one on a different piece of paper, you take some time to read each one carefully starting with the first from of the right.
A sabotage contract on a magnolia merchant. No name is given, but instead, a small picture of a rather fat man with long brown hair in rather fancy red clothes is attached to the corner of the paper by a silver paper clip. The job details that whoever takes this job is to destroy the merchant's cart as he travels the route between magnolia town and oak town as this would put him out of commission for a few months making the requester of this job very happy.
Again, no name is given about who requested this job but at the bottom of the contract, it states to report to the guild master when the task is complete to receive the reward of 300,000 Jewels.
"The price of destroying a man's work, huh?" You ask yourself wondering who these people, that come up with these rewards, are. Still, such an amount of jewels is quite large for just destroying a cart and, well you could get very creative with how to complete the task, given your magic.
Still thinking about it, you move on to the contract in the middle. An **** contract on a rune knight in Magnolia town, which again, comes without a provided name, but rather a picture of an old man with short grey hair wearing a rune knights uniform is included. The job details are, as you could have guessed, to kill your target, if you can, without getting caught, otherwise, the guild would have to silence you as a means of precaution. A fair if also somewhat harsh punishment for failure, yet the reward for this contract is 500,000 jewels making it even more profitable than the merchant contact.
"The price of a life, wow!" You say to yourself, wondering again who comes up with these rewards?
Finally, you move to the last contract on the left which asks for the capture of the dark mage known as Sorano, who according to the contact is currently residing in the magic council's prison for the crime of treason against the order of magic. A portrait of a female with short white hair and a face fit for an angel comes with the paper along with a more information than the last two, including even the name of the person who requested this ****, a certain Mr Dirt.
Thinking this to be rather strange as the other contracts hid the name of the requester, you turn around to your, still spaced out looking, boss before asking him why his name is one of these contacts?
"Oh, I must put that out by mistake. How silly of me, usually I only leave such contact for experienced members of the freedom guild. Seeing as the reward is more a time saver, than jewels to fill one's pocket."
He said this without even turning around to face you. Perhaps he's embarrassed because he made a mistake or is he just being rude? Either way, your eyes quickly dart to the bottom of the contract to see that the reward for this job is something called a training ticket.
'What the hell is a training ticket?' You wonder to yourself thinking perhaps you could use it to train at a gym for free or something, but yet again Mr.Dirt in his usual British tone answers, before you could even pose a question, that the ticket did no such thing and instead ties into the other activities at the guild.
"Alas in telling you Morgan, I feel I would ruin the surprise of the ticket. Perhaps it would be better for you to first concentrate on getting some jewels, as they say, money makes the world go around and that is no different here at freedom. After all, if you wish to fully enjoy what this guild can offer you'll need as many Jewels as you can..."
Is your boss giving you hints? You guess so, but why? All these questions and no answers meant only one thing to you. You have to choose a job and complete it if you wanted to really see what being a freedom mage is all about.
So looking at the three contracts one last time, you decide to pick the....
Which contract do you pick?
