Jaime Notices the News

I was about to follow Kristin upstairs when Jaime spoke up. "Whoa, have you seen the news this morning?" She was scrolling down her phone with an expression of bewilderment and wonder on her face.

I played dumb. "No, what's going on?"

"A bunch of stuff -- Congress passed this huge renewable energy bill and everyone says we'll all have electric cars in three years, they announced they've found a vaccine for all types of cancer and another vaccine for all sexually transmitted diseases including HIV, Kim Jong-Un says he intends to disarm and open up North Korea, the Israelis and Palestinians are signing a peace treaty -- it's hashtag Good News Day, people are saying."

"You're welcome," I said. "Glad I could help."

"Ha ha," Jaime said, rolling her eyes and then looking back down at her phone. "Wow, and what's this business with the Rothschilds..."

"I'm serious," I said. "I had this dream where the devil said he was giving me absolute power over everything and everyone on Earth. I woke up and found out it was true, so I decided to improve things."

"If it was the devil, shouldn't you be making things worse?"

"Yeah, very funny. I improved my body, too."

Jaime looked at my tanned, handsome self and wrinkled her nose. "Well, you didn't make yourself less annoying."

I realized I didn't look any different to her. "No, it's because I changed reality when I changed myself. Didn't want to have to explain who I was and what I was doing here in the kitchen to you and Kristin."

She started to get up from the table. "I'd like to change reality so I didn't get into this conversation with you. I've gotta get to school."

"Make a wish," I suggested.

"Okay, I wish I hadn't gotten into --"

"No, come on -- something you'll notice right away. Something you want to change about yourself, or this house, or whatever."

"Fine, I'll humor you," Jaime said exasperatedly. "I wish..."
