Uklag builds the device(s).

Sticks and stones lie on the wooden floor of Uklag’s short term housing solution. “Are those enough?” Catherine asks as she cleans her fingernails, “Really not my line of work.” Inspecting the amount of materials Uklag answers with a simple “It will suffice.” And gets to work.

A few hours later Uklag has created a total of three functioning devices. Well, device is a very ambitious term. What he holds in his hand is basically a semi-automatic transmutation circle made out of wooden runes that flow into each other.

It will allow anybody to channel power into it and transform dirt, and only dirt, into air and a wooden construct to hold up the resulting cavity. Uklag steps out of the hole he has made for testing purposes and throws one of the circles at Catherine.

Surprised she almost misses it with her hands but after a bit of fidgeting she has a firm hold on it. “And what am I supposed to do with this?” She asks and waves it around. Uklag rolls his eyes, “Use it of course. Do you really think I will make the tunnel alone and exhaust myself to even the slightest extend? If this whole plan goes down the well I need to be in full power.”

Catherine sighs. “Meaning that my power is of no use here?” Uklag shrugs, “We both know who the Master here is.” A nod and Uklag tosses her a second circle. “Give that to that Dorian guy. He might as well make himself useful.”

Catherine walks of and Uklag is left alone. “If this whole thing goes down the drain, huh?” he mumbles to himself. With the attack on the horizon he has to ask himself something important.

Will he try to double-cross that bear looking barbarian or is it worth to keep this guy around? He weighs the remaining circle in his hand. A quick modification and he could reverse the whole tunnel behind him after he gets what he wants, leaving a sizable decoy while he vanishes into the night.

Then again, Ulric has come this far. What if he gets even further? Having a rebel leader as a contact could prove very useful indeed. Even if the contact breaks his actions up here will at least divide some attention away from himself.

“Decisions, decisions.” Uklag muses to himself and draws a few runes in the dirt above the dummy-tunnel. It collapses as the wood becomes dirt again, leaving a depression in the ground.

He stands up and walks to the main camp to tell Ulric of his success. ‘Ah, whatever let’s keep him around.’ Uklag figures, ‘The advantages of backstabbing him are less than the fun I will have from the news of his further adventures.’

All that is left now is to wait for the attack.
