Chapter 108 by bastardlydastard bastardlydastard

On the ship

A swift battle.

The three of you hit the deck of the ship with resounding thumps. The impact hurts your legs, but you ignore the pain, standing upright and drawing your sword.

You hear the sound of running footsteps, and a woman wearing leather armor rounds the aft castle into your view. Seeing you, she throws back her head and shouts:

"Sound the alarm, we-" before being cut off by the thunk of an arrow lodging itself in her throat.

You nod your thanks to Siris, and ready yourself for the arrival of more foes.

A moment later, several armed women begin streaming onto the deck. By your count there are seven, but two of them take arrows and fall before they get to you, leaving you and Kyra only five to deal with.

Three of them target you, the largest threat, and two break off to attack Kyra.

You put your combat training to good use, parrying and dodging with surprising grace. You slap aside a blade aimed for your throat, and use the resulting opening to put your sword through it's wielder. You take a light wound on your upper arm as a spear tip splits the skin, but you take the chance to wrap an arm around the weapon, disabling it, and striking down it's user. The final woman darts inside your guard, swinging her mace for your head, but she is stopped short by one of your massive hands intercepting it's flight and catching it by the shaft. Once you have her weapon, you end the battle by delivering a solid punch to her stomach. she collapses down to the ground, ****.

You glance at Kyra, finding her just finishing her battle as well, slicing the throat of her last living assailant.

You find the slaves below deck, and you only speak to them once, saying:

"You are now free men. Make the most of this gift I offer you."

Once the slaves are freed from their restraints, you detach one of the lanterns hanging about the upper deck, throwing it down into the river. This act signals Lysander and Colter to pull up alongside you in a small rowboat they had stolen days earlier. You and your two companions slide down a hefty rope, into the smaller craft, and once the three of you are settled, you row off, into the night.

What happens now?
