Chapter 19 by TeratonArm

Roll +CUNNING (+2) on a custom spell casting roll to enchant the ring.

On a 7-9, embarrass Ms. Sterling, +1 XP and GET OUT OF TROUBLE

5+2+2=9

You feel the spell go off, and true to the visual the book described, you feel the magical energy collect somewhere in your chest, flow out through your wand and filter into the gem set into the ring. You swear you even see it sparkle for a moment, light refracting in different colors of the rainbow despite the gem decidedly not being a prism. You turn it over in your hand, raising one finger to test your enchantment, when you find a tall frame in blue fabric suddenly at the side of your desk.

"Having much success, Mr....?" Ms. Sterling asks.

"Mothwing-Marshall, Ma'am. And no. I mean, I don't know. I haven't put it on yet." You explain, a bit clumsily.

"Well, Mr. Mothwing, may I?" She extends a finger for you to slip the ring onto, and again, a bit clumsily, you comply. Its dull, gray, metal band and milky, colorless gem clash with her otherwise fine jewelry, but nonetheless as Ms. Sterling turns her hand over back and forth, she appraises it eagerly. "Now, which enchantment did you perform?"

"The color-changing spell." Ms. Sterling nods, and stares into the crystal, which after a moment's delay turns a deep blue, matching the sapphire color of her robes. You grin; the enchantment worked!

"Very nice," she mutters, before another moment passes and the crystal turns a bright red. Your grin stays strong at the display, until you see the red color spread out along the fabric of Ms. Sterling's robes, starting at her wrist closest to the ring, all the way down to the bottom-most tips of her robes. Ms. Sterling's eyes widen a bit, though she doesn't lose her slight smile, and immediately changes the color of the ring again to a vivid green, her robes following in turn. "Well," she says, "the enchantment seems to have worked, albeit with a slight side effect. Now, while this side effect isn't harmful, and actually may be entertaining in it's own right" she gestures down to herself while addressing the room, and the ring and her robes turn a rich purple, "it is, for obvious safety reasons, that more complex enchantments are handled with greater care, and that you always make sure your spell does only what you want it to. Nothing more. Still," Ms. Sterling says, turning back towards you, "mistakes are a part of progress, and I'd certainly consider this a job well done." With a flourish, she moves her hand towards you so as to return the ring, as the color fades from the ring back into it's normal, white, translucent form.

Only, as the color fades from the enchanted ring, so to does it from Ms. Sterling's robes. It takes the class a minute to understand what is happening, but as they do they go silent, a few of them only just managing to stifle short gasps or quick bursts of laughter. The once rich blue robes are now decidedly less colorful, being at most a faint white, and are certainly less opaque. The faint impression of the robes creases and wrinkles are there, only now the students can see what lies underneath as well. A lacy white bra and panties combo (presumably having been a matching blue a second ago), with garterbelt holding up a long pair of stockings. Those too, are translucent, and past two layers of half-visible clothing, students can make out Ms. Sterling's slender silhouette, the darker circles and protrusions of her nipples foremost, and needing to squint to make out details below the waist.

Both you and Ms. Sterling are stunned into inaction for a moment, acknowledging the affliction to her wardrobe, before you hurriedly yank the ring off of Ms. Sterling's finger, and the color comes flooding back into them. No longer exposed, but with her class's brains now able to fill in the details of what lies under her dress, she stands back up straight, her slight smile no where to be found as she looks down at you.

"Mistakes," she says, "are part of progress. But perhaps, Mr. Mothwing, some mistakes should be treated more severely than others."

Uh-oh.
