Chapter 7 by SonofOsman SonofOsman

Roll +Ambition-1 (2d6+1) (Custom move) to see if you blended in.

On a 7-9, you get ashore... at a cost.

⚂⚂+1= 7

Almost immediately, you start regretting your decision... as you're almost able to feel the Leontis' gaze burrowing into your back... the sound of footsteps and waves crashing around the boat making it hard to hear whatever was behind you. At this point, a lesser man might have been overcome with insecurity and looked back, just to satisfy his fear... but you manage to grit your teeth and keep your eyes on the ground, walking in time with the rest of the upperclassmen as they leap down on the shore. You take your spot in the line, glancing back only at the last moment after your reach the front of the boat and toss your suitcase softly onto the sand... the brute thankfully too distracted with his Beavertail beauty to pay you much mind.

You take hold of the railing, swinging yourself onto the safe shore before rushing to your suitcase. You had your dignity for now... but you could feel the blood draining from your face as the fear of getting caught, seized by this disorderly mob, and tossed unceremoniously into the lake creeps into your thoughts. You can hear the upperclassmen calling on the first-years to stay aboard, soon followed by the ferry rowing itself a dozen or so meters back out into the Tarn... to the point where just getting back on wasn't an option. You shudder at the mental image of the potential indignity... splashing into the water and losing not only your luggage, but your hat as well. Your body shudders... trying to turn back towards the ferry to watch the "Chilly Willy Tarn" like any other classmate, but find your body refusing to face it. Instead, you start speed-walking your way up the bluff trail that lead up to the castle complex.

"School rule! First years have to splash ashore!" you hear a feminine voice shout as you abandon the other first-years to their fate. Very well... its their fault for their ignorance you try to justify it to yourself, yet as you hustle your way up the crude path you can't help but feel a deep sense of shame. Is this what your premier to this school is going to be? A show of cowardness towards some peasant upstart? A Draconis should take such slights in stride. The part of your thoughts not overrun by fear chastises you... causing your shoulders to sag and lips to quiver more then any dip in the Lake might have done.

Eventually, you silently walk over the last rise lost in your thoughts as the single path branches out into the the carved pavestone walkway of campus proper. The doors to the Great Hall stand in front of you, glowing red with torchlight, the wind blowing through the empty plaza a chilling reminder of how alone that false performance of yours had left you. You grip onto your suitcase handle tightly, the echo of laughter coming up from below. Part of you cried out for vengeance... or at least some kind of redemption, to stand your ground with pride; while another called you into the inviting Hall... or up to Draconis Tower, where you knew a sympathetic ear would be waiting.

Record a Consequence (-1 to all rolls) from residual fear and shame.

Possibilities for your next move include...

  • Wait in the plaza and publicly outdo the Leontis once he arrives, to placate your wounded pride, by charming the girl out from under him.. Narrate your actions, then DEFEND YOUR HOUSE'S HONOR (+Ambition, House Draconis Trait, -1 for Consequence, 2d6+1).
  • Go to the Great Hall and introduce yourself to the Headmistress, taking advantage of being ahead of the other students. Roll to Roll to ENCOUNTER Headmistress Porcinilla (+Ambition, House Draconis Trait, -1 for Consequence, 2d6+1 )
  • Head directly to Draconis Tower to be among friends... or more specifically, Anastasia and her friends. Narrate your arrival, then you may roll to ENCOUNTER Anastasia at +Ambition+2 (2d6+3, after -1 for Consequence)
  • Other options?

What shall it be?
