Chapter 20
by TMJ2008
Why is it that your face isn't smashed in right now?
A Familiar's intervention
You open your eyes to see what has happened and, as you do, they widen with shock. For, as you look upon Skulgi and his two friends, you see they have been caught in green slimy tentacles that hold them fast. They each have tendrils wrapped about their arms and legs and at their mouths to cover up any sound they could make. You turn and look at Lime and see that those tentacles have grown from her back, the slime tentacles wriggling as they grew from her and held the dwarves still. She is glaring at the dwarves, her wide eyes narrowed and her lips turned down into a frown. Her cheeks are slightly puffed out as she scowls at them and you find, even in anger, she is adorable to you. Even though she is probably much less so to Skulgi and his friends who, though they struggle, cannot break free of Lime's grip.
"Good girl, Lime. Very good.", you tell her with a nod and then you turn your attention to Skulgi again, "As I said, you should be ashamed of yourself, Skulgi. If you don't treat your familiar with the proper respect, then how can you expect them to respect you in return? The magical bond we share with them can only go so far. If a sub-par student like myself knows that much, you should be even more aware of it than I."
You lecture the dwarf even as you slip off the sleeveless leather jerkin you wore over your shirt and, with a gentle smile on your face, you approach the dragoness and hold the garment out to her. "Here. Wear this. It's a little small for you, I'm afraid, but it should help cover you up a little bit, if you like.", you tell her as you, very slowly to make sure she doesn't think of you as threatening, move to slip the vest around her shoulders as best you can. It is a little hard as she has wings, but she seems all right with them being folded flat against her back.
She looks to you with surprised gratitude as she lets you slip the leather jerkin on her, moving her arms so she can put it on correctly. As you had thought, it was a bit small for her as she was taller than you and she, er, stuck out a bit more up front than you, but she managed to fasten at least the middle toggle of the jerkin so that it covered up her dusky nipples. Though it also served to press her full breasts together quite enticingly and put very tempting cleavage on display as well. You had to work to not look at her, your cheeks aflame with your embarrassment as you pointedly looked at the ground instead of her.
You feel, however, a smooth scaly hand caress your cheek and you look up at her to meet her glowing green gaze as she urges you to look up at her. You see that warm gratitude in her eyes once more and you think, just for a moment, that you can almost hear whispered thanks somewhere in the back of your mind. But, again, it is only a wisp of a thing and soon you are left looking at her and giving her a nervous smile in return. You aren't used to doing things like this, not at all, but it was the right thing to do and you knew it so you were glad to help.
You smile to the dragoness one last time and then turn back to Lime. "All right, let them go, Lime.", you say as you look to the slime girl...and notice, for just a moment, that the green of her soft, gel-like flesh seems to be luminescent. Right before she releases the dwarves, you think you see a flash of some sort of light radiating from the tentacles she has wrapped about them, but it is a brief thing. Still, it was something that had you furrowing your brow as you looked to Lime, who only smiled at you in her usual innocently joyful way as she moved back to your side and grasped your hand happily with a soft coo.
The dwarves, at this point, are panting and looking somewhat drained from the ordeal of having been caught by Lime's surprisingly strong tentacles. Skulgi in particular seems almost pale as he backs away from you and Lime, glaring at you all the while. He starts to growl something at you, but Lime whips a tentacle at him, the tendril slapping with a sharp crack against the stone floor in front of him in warning and, and he closes his mouth quickly.
He instead turns his attention towards his familiar and growls at her as he starts to reach out to her, apparently intent on tearing the garment you'd given her from her shoulders, but then another surprising thing happens. His familiar growls and snaps at him, slapping his hand and moving away slightly out of his reach as he tries to touch her. They both seem surprised by that as, due to the magic of the familiar and summoner bond, she shouldn't be able to hurt him outright. And, yet, she had definitely struck him and that was something unprecedented. The only way such a thing could happen is if the power of the summoning spell was somehow disturbed or the summoner's magic faded, but that hardly ever happened.
The unprecedented event put a worried look on Skulgi's face and a speculative one on the dragoness's as they looked at each other and then to you. Skulgi frowned and glared as he pointed at you and snarled, "I'll remember this, Toby! You can bet on that! You're goin' to pay for this...", before turning on his heel and stomping away.
The dragoness, meanwhile, looked at you and Lime with curious light in her eyes, as though she was considering something. She did this for a long moment before, finally and with another soft look at the pair of you, she turned and followed after Skulgi, looking quite a bit more the proud and noble creature she should be. This put a smile on your face and you looked to Lime and gave her a pat on the head as you knew you wouldn't have been able to do such a thing as help the dragoness and stand up to Skulgi if it wasn't for her. She was already making you better than you once had been, you think, and you are grateful to her for that.
"Come on, Lime. Let's go get something to eat.", you say and Lime coos happily as she walks beside you, her hand still in yours as you walk together to the dining hall.
How do things proceed after that rather dramatic midday event?
