Chapter 10

How do you stop the 'overclock': accept, or smash the gem?

"I swear myself to Armok."

Power, power has a certain appeal.

"I swear myself to your cause Armok, grant me what you have promised and I will follow you to the ends of Alluvia and beyond!" You intone.

Suddenly the gem flies from your hand and embeds itself in your throat, right where you would have an Adam's apple if you were male. There is a spray of blood and you think you might be about to die, or even de-rez: erased from the server completely, as you feel your code destabilize and come apart at a fundamental level. However shortly you feel it re-structure and crystallize, not the same as it was before, and your status screen comes up unbidden.

Class Change!

Race: Human ♀

Weaknesses and Resistances

No weaknesses or resistances

Special Abilities:

Exceptional Balance: resistant to trip, knockdown, bum-rush, and overrun attempts. 20% Bonus to checks involving balance such as climbing, tightrope walking, and holding heavy objects on top of your head.
Charming: You can easily ingratiate yourself to others, making them more likely to do what you want. You gain a 10% discount at all shops and earn 25% more from working at a 'Job'. You also get a 50% chance to avoid angering NPCs when you make a 'bad request' in negotiations.
Prayer: You may call on >Armok< for aid, gaining a refresh of health and mana. You may pray to your god in this way (Level/10) times per Day [Minimum 1], and your base chance to receive aid is equal to (Your Level)%. You can increase this chance by offering a suitable sacrifice: in >Armok<'s case being >Blood< in the form of >(HP of Sacrifice/10)%< or >(Sacrificed HP/5)%<.
Spells: You may learn >Cleric< spells from other >worshipers of your god(dess)< or >the god(dess) (him/her)self<, of Circle equal to (Your Level/2, round up). You begin your career with the >Blood Money< spell and any >4< >other< First Circle spells of your choice.

You stand their agog as the 'overclock' comes to a sudden end and everything bursts back into motion. You are a PC class now! Admittedly many NPCs have PC class levels, and you still are not a Named Character, but you have gained a great deal: including an explanation of what those two abilities you have had since you first spawned actually DO. However as you realize after a second that your fellow waitresses, or at least former 'fellow' waitresses, are looking at you with a slightly horrified expression...

What's your next move?
