Chapter 40
by

Which specialization do you choose? Or do you choose at all?
Thrasher.
You study the descriptions intently. Would it kill them to be a little clearer? What the hell did "Capacity for almost unlimited growth" mean? And "some mobility lost"? Would you end up like you were before, for all intents and purposes rooted in place? In the end you feel safer choosing Thrasher, mostly because you'd actually forgotten you had a ranged attack at all. Well, here goes nothing... Click
You feel a wild pulse of energy surge through you, like mana but more pleasant, and the groaning of plant fibers gives way to the creaking of wood. You feel your body expanding, the vines thickening and stretching as the flesh hardens. Doubling over, you feel your largely amorphous mass solidify into a sturdier shape.
The whole process only takes a few seconds and when the sensations fade you apprehensively check yourself over. Whereas before you resembled a particularly large sweet-pea, most of your body has developed a tough bark, lending you a wisteria-like appearance. You definitely have a central stalk now, a thick wrap of hardy looking vines that you are unable to separate. Your flower/head is now protected by a thick outer ring of armor-like petals that seal perfectly to protect your most **** area. You stand atop several dense root clusters/legs and your many dozens of vines project from your central stalk in three main areas just below your head, making them almost like many-fingered arms.
You experimentally whip your newly armored digits through the air. Hm... doesn't seem to be any slower... You crack a bundle of vines down on the earth, gouging deep furrows in the packed soil. Definitely stronger... Alright. I think I can work with this. Let's see what those stats actually entail.
Vine Fiend
Lvl: 14
Melee Attack: 40
Ranged Attack: 0
Weakness: Fire
Special Abilities:
Plant - heals 8 HP/sec when raining and regenerates 5 MP/sec when in direct sunlight.
Immune to poison
Earth Wade - can wade through the earth like water.
Absorb - can draw mana from target through contact.
Herbal flow - can heal an ally for 3HP/sec through contact.
Kindred: creatures sharing a type with you receive a bonus to HP and melee attack.
Ability Gained!
Oakflesh: can harden your body into dense wood. Prevents all voluntary movement of the hardened areas.
Well... The strength bonus is pretty good... I guess. Oakflesh huh? Hm. Let's see... Oakflesh.
You feel yourself go rigid, all movement stops, and a minor drain on your mana that is almost compensated for by the rays of the sun. Aooh...Uoh? Oh right. You release the ability and your body once more limbers up. That's better. Well. I guess it might come in handy for somethin-wait a minute. You concentrate on one of your vines, holding it out straight, and try the ability again Oakflesh. The vine shifts to a deep brown and becomes completely still, the long tip ending in a point. Almost like a spear...
Oh. Oh yes. I can make this work. Feeling twice the plant you once were, you set off down the trail in search of Dana. Hopefully you can find her soon, that witch will only sleep for so long...
Where do you find Dana?

Game Monster
From Creep to Boss
You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
