**New Route: Mrs. Keagan – The Proposition**

Adult only. All characters 18+.

### Setup

Mrs. Keagan (first name Helen) is 41, still striking, with the kind of figure that turns heads at the grocery store and the neighborhood association meetings. Her husband, Bill, is 44, soft, and increasingly invisible in his own marriage.

They have not had sex in nine months. Bill has stopped initiating because the rejections became automatic. Helen has stopped noticing the absence. Their conversations have narrowed to logistics—bills, the car, what to do about the fence.

Tonight, after the dishes are done and the television is off, Bill finally says the thing he has been turning over for weeks.

### Opening Scene

Bill sat on the edge of the bed while Helen took out her earrings at the dresser. The bedroom lamp cast a low yellow light. He watched her reflection instead of her back.

“Helen.”

She glanced at him in the mirror. “Hmm?”

“When was the last time we had sex?”

Her hands paused. She set the second earring down carefully, then turned to face him. For a moment she looked as if she might deflect, the way she always did. Instead she answered honestly.

“I don’t remember.”

“Neither do I. I think it’s been since before the summer.”

Silence settled between them. Helen crossed her arms, not defensively, just holding herself.

“Are you asking for a reason?” she said.

“I’m asking because I realized something. I’m a cuckold. Or I’m becoming one. Or I already am and I just haven’t looked at it directly.” He kept his voice level. “You don’t reach for me. I don’t reach for you. But you still get dressed up when you leave the house. You still come home later than you used to. And I stopped wondering why.”

Helen’s expression didn’t change much. She walked over and sat on the opposite corner of the bed, leaving space between them.

“You’re not wrong,” she said quietly. “About the time. Or about me.”

Bill waited.

She looked at her hands. “A few months ago I was offered something. A proposition. I told myself it was temporary. That it was just attention. That it didn’t count because it wasn’t… love. But it kept happening. And I stopped telling myself it would end.”

She finally met his eyes.

“Do you want the details, or do you want the shape of it?”

### Opening Choice

A. The Shape Only

Bill says he needs the outline first—who, how often, whether it is still going on—before he decides if he can hear more.

B. Full Details

He tells her to start from the beginning and leave nothing out. He wants every name, every place, every time she came home late.

C. The Present Tense

He asks only one question: “Is it still happening?” and lets the answer decide the rest of the conversation.

D. The Proposition Itself

He asks her to tell him exactly what was offered to her, and what she accepted, without the history yet.

### Core Branches That Open From Here

1. Confession Path

Helen tells the truth in whatever depth Bill requested. The proposition came from a man (or men) connected to their life—neighbor, Bill’s colleague, someone from the gym, a friend of a friend. She accepted. She continued. She is prepared for Bill to leave, to explode, or to stay.

2. Negotiation Path

Bill does not walk out. He starts asking conditions. Can it stop? Can it continue with rules? Does she want it to continue? What does she actually want from him now?

3. Cuckold Realization Path

Bill admits the knowledge has been sitting in him longer than he pretended. The lack of sex, the late nights, the way she looks when she comes home—he had already started living like a man who knows. Hearing it spoken only makes the shape clearer.

4. Immediate Consequence Path

The conversation ends with an action the same night: Helen offers to show him messages, Bill asks her to cancel the next meeting, Helen asks if he wants to be present next time, or Bill simply gets up and leaves the room to think.

How to continue

Reply with the letter of the Opening Choice (A, B, C, or D), and optionally tell me:

  • Who the other man (or men) should be (neighbor, boss, friend, stranger, etc.)

  • Whether you want Helen remorseful, matter-of-fact, or already half-defiant

  • How passive or reactive you want Bill in the first chapter

I will then write the full opening chapter from that point.
