I walk back into the dorm and drop my bag by the couch. Jeff is in the kitchen working on dinner, while Chase is nearby helping him with a few things. Doug is sitting at his desk, completely absorbed in his computer.

Jeff glances over. “Hey, man. Where’ve you been?”

“Out for a while,” I say casually. “How’s it going?”

“Good. We’re making dinner.”

I look toward the kitchen and notice a girl sitting at the table.

Jeff gestures toward her. “Oh, yeah. This is Ariana, my girlfriend.”

She looks over and gives me a friendly smile. “Hey.”

“Hey, nice to meet you.”

“You too.”

Jeff turns back toward the stove. “Ariana, this is Ethan. One of my roommates.”

“Got it,” she says with a little smile.

I nod and grab a drink from the fridge before sitting on the couch.
