What's next?
Another day, another client
The bell above the café door chimed, a cheerful sound that did little to lift the weight in my chest. I sat across from a woman in her early thirties, the picture of suburban respectability in a crisp linen blouse and tasteful pearl earrings. But I knew better. People like her didn't seek me out for coffee and chat. They wanted something more. Something... magical.
"You want me to do... what?" I asked, keeping my voice low despite the relative emptiness of the café.
She leaned forward, her voice a conspiratorial whisper. "A... modification," she said, her eyes darting around nervously. "For... back there." She gestured vaguely toward her rear.
I couldn't help but notice the resemblance to Judy—the same fiery red hair, though this woman's was styled in a sophisticated updo. But where Judy was slight and mousy, this woman was all soft curves and confident femininity, her blouse straining against a generous bosom, her skirt clinging to hips that promised a lush, womanly figure.
She chuckled wryly, as if sensing my unspoken question. "My husband and I... we've been exploring other avenues," she said, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Anal sex, to be precise. But the... preparation is such a hassle. I was wondering if there was some... magical way... to make it... better."
I sighed, the sound barely audible over the café's gentle background music. Of course. Another one of those jobs. I didn't have a problem with them, not really. They paid well, and they were usually straightforward. But I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. Was this all my magic was good for? Enhancing people's sex lives? Maybe it was just a coincidence. Or maybe people were just that horny. Whatever.
"There may be a way," I said, my voice flat. "But it's not something to be taken lightly. Magic like this... it can be dangerous if not treated with caution."
She nodded, her expression earnest. "I understand. I'm willing to take the risk."
I studied her for a moment, noting the determination in her eyes. "The spell I'm thinking of... it requires a... physical component. A catalyst, if you will. I would probably have to have sex with you," I said, my voice matter-of-fact. "Not that I mind," I added, with a slight, wry smile. "But this is something you need to discuss with your husband. This is a decision you both need to make."
She nodded again, her expression thoughtful. "I will," she said. "I'll talk to him tonight."
I stood, leaving a few bills on the table to cover my coffee. "If you decide to go through with it, contact me," I said, handing her a plain white business card with only a phone number printed on it. "My number's on there."
She took the card, her fingers brushing against mine. "I'll be in touch," she promised.
I left the café, stepping out into the bright afternoon sun. I couldn't help but wonder how this would go. Would her husband be open to the idea? Or would this be another dead end, another potential client scared off by the realities of magic? Only time would tell. And in the meantime, my tuition bill wasn't getting any smaller.
---
The buzz of my intercom was sharp and insistent, a sound I'd come to associate with both opportunity and the particular brand of desperation that paid my bills. I pressed the button. "Yes?"
"It's Claire," a woman's voice replied, slightly breathless. "Judy's aunt."
I buzzed her in, then unlocked my apartment door, leaving it ajar. A few minutes later, she was there, standing in my doorway, looking even more formidable than she had in the café. The linen blouse was gone, replaced by a simple, form-fitting black dress that did little to hide the generous curves of her body. Her red hair was down now, a cascade of waves that fell past her shoulders.
"Come in, Claire," I said, stepping aside to let her pass.
She walked into my small apartment, her eyes taking in the sparse furnishings, the shelves overflowing with books, the faint scent of ozone that always seemed to linger in the air. "It's... cozy," she said, a slight smile playing on her lips.
"It's home," I replied, leading her toward the bedroom. "I've prepared something for you. To begin."
On my nightstand sat a small, crystal goblet filled with a shimmering, iridescent liquid that swirled with colors that had no name in the human language. It was beautiful, and it was dangerous.
"What will it do?" she asked, her voice tight with a mixture of fear and anticipation.
I gestured for her to sit on the edge of the bed. "It's a multi-step procedure," I explained, my voice low and serious. "And this first step is the most dangerous of them all."
I picked up the goblet, the liquid within seeming to pulse with a life of its own. "This will change your intestinal fauna into something... magically enhanced. But that magic carries a great risk."
I paused, making sure I had her full attention. "It's a magic used by some magicians... darker ones... to make a person expel their personality through their rectum. And that will happen here too. It's inevitable."
Claire's eyes widened, her hand flying to her mouth. "My... personality?"
"Your essence, your consciousness, the very things that make you you," I confirmed. "That's why it's so dangerous, and why it has to be controlled. The excretion is inevitable, and it has to be performed once. Then, I will reimplant the personality safely, while you retain the special fauna in your gut."
I could see the fear warring with the desire in her eyes. She was scared, but she was also intrigued, and the promise of what came next was too tempting to ignore.
"And the... the second part?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
"The fauna changes the nature of your waste," I explained. "It ends up becoming more jelly-like and actually pleasant in smell. It would also end up mostly sterile—completely removing the need of any cleanup before anal."
I held out the goblet to her. "The choice is yours, Claire. But if you're going to do this, you need to commit. There's no going back once you drink this."
She looked from the goblet to me, her expression unreadable. Then, with a determined nod, she took the goblet from my hand. "Let's do it," she said, her voice firm. "Let's make me... better."
