Dense Wave Saber
“This is a lightsaber!” Glauco exclaimed excited. The vampire king smiled at the simple happiness of his cousin. Human still, and possibly for the rest of his life.
One of the reasons why he had postponed the presentation of the family to vampiric society was that it severely limited their opportunities to turn family members into vampires. Until the presentation he could just do it, knowing they would deal with the issue during the officialization of the family. Once the family was made official, his number of potential vampires members was carved in stone, so to speak.
Change it would be possible, but not free of complications.
Better that way, perhaps. Given the option he, himself, would prefer to expend the rest of his life as a human member of a vampire family. With all the conveniences and nothing of the complications that came with being a timeless supernatural predator.
V was smiling, for the first time in a long time she looked like herself. Being turned into stone and back to normal seemingly destroyed her spirit, and sense of humour.
She was fighting to be around, present in the moment. Often looked at him as if she didn’t knew who he was. Glauco’s silly amazement had touched something in her. Apparently.
Well, his wife and queen of this family was an alien vampire from another universe, million of years old. Who insisted in being called “Vampirela”, and dressed like the silly comic book character for official events of society. Clearly, she had to be inclined towards identification with that sort of goofy stuff.
Jaila, the first official guest from another family in their house, was immune to the amazement. She was the prototype of a Vampire Cleric, deep knowledge about the Creator Race and their gifts. Intuitive understanding about alien technologies like this device, but little else in terms of personality. Least nothing that could be noticed in her superficial behaviour around people she had barely started to get used to.
The woman had been a vampire for 5300 years. She would still be called “children of the night”, in official documents, until she reach at least 50.000.
That was crazy, to the young king. His unique position gave him the power and the status of heads of family who are one million years old. In some aspects, more than that power. Still, he was a newborn vampire, as far as experience and wisdom are concerned.
“No. The image is of a lightsaber, but it is a hologram. This golden ring right here is not part of the original structure, it was integrated later to avoid accidents and can store about 3.000.000 different sorts of blade. Your king asked me to program this particular image, of a green lightsaber.
If you need to call it like that, then it is a Dense Wave Saber. The actual blade is 75 centimetres tall, 1 millimetre tick, when activated. It is completely invisible, produces no sound and has no weigh. That is a problem in practical terms, because DW erases about anything that gets in contact with it from existence. You understand why someone at some moment, decided to add the hologram projector. The image covers the actual blade, coinciding with it.
It is an extremely rare treasure, and my family offered it to your king as a sigh of our good will. I admit, I am somewhat perplexed for seeing it in the hands of a human. Even a human member of the family, from the main branch of it.”
“Your gift is appreciated. Your generosity, in stay with us for some time and teach us more about your family ways is even more important to us.” Pointed the king, in an effort to be diplomatic.
“What my master and husband means, in his gentle dialect, is that we trust our blood and indulge our family as we please. Your family elders made the mistake to invest resources to help finance the attack against our family thinking that was a safe investment, that would get you a few extra-points in local politics. Your Head of Family nowadays is a stupid child of the night, physically powerful and competent enough to devise tactic, lead vampires in combat, but incapable to do any thinking by himself beyond that.
They saw a dozen families involved in that attack destroyed. Some far more powerful than yours. Don’t know how, but understand their chances of fighting their way out of this situation give little ground for hope.
That’s why they send you, and this gift.
By accepting you here we are showing our good will, and patience. As long as you are here as a guest, showing us proper deference, your family is safe from our vengeance. If my husband change his mind about this, he can send you back at any time. Your elders would have to decide between submit completely to us, or face a war they cannot possibly hope to win.
Who you think you are to disrespect my husband?”
“I, this is hardly…”
“Appropriate? Do you wish to lecture me on proper manners, Cleric?”
“No, majesty. I apologise. My behaviour was, uncivilized.”
“Nonsense. It was predatorial, exactly like suits a noble vampire lassie such as yourself! Think nothing about it, child.
It is a very rare item, that much is undisputable. Useless, unpractical, toy. From the perspective of warfare. Still, a treasure of advanced technology and artistic beauty. Do you know why swords like that are so rare, while DW-guns are comparatively much more common?”
“You just mentioned it. The guns are more practical to use in combat”
“Sure, yes, they are. That’s not the reason, though. If the same technological level was required to fabricate both items certainly military officials and other types would carry the swords along with the guns. For status, if nothing else.
What happen is that: to keep a Dense Wave flux continuous requires a level of energy far beyond what is necessary to make a line of DW of a few trillion light-years pop into existence for a fraction of second. Inside this handle there is a tiny piece that acts as a collector of inter-dimensional energy. Accessing the power waisted by computational processes of the Creator Race System between universes is the only way to get that much power.
Just happens that this technology two moves away from step on the line of technological advancement that results in every person in a Life Pocket being killed by the Creator Race, and having their cultures erased forever.
Once a civilization starts building things like that, it is at the edge of extinction.
That’s what make DW-Sabers, as you just called it, such a rare treasure.
