Seems like you're safe?

Question the satiated Stalkers directly

Chapter 7 by magictcg magictcg

You take a measured breath, steeling yourself, and step closer to the rust-colored alpha sprawled against the Grotto's exterior wall. The massive beast's yellow eyes track your movement with predatory precision, but it doesn't rise. Its breathing remains steady, almost meditative. You're close enough now to smell it—a complex musk of blood, spent fluids, and something else entirely: the unmistakable scent of other bodies still clinging to its scaled hide.

"Can you... understand me?" Your voice sounds small against the thrumming bass from inside the club. The alpha's ears twitch—a responsive gesture that sends a spike of hope through your chest. "I'm looking for a way out. The Exit Gate. Have you seen anything like that in this forest?"

The creature makes a sound: not words, but a deep, resonant vibration that travels through the ground and into your bones. Its massive head turns slightly, and you catch the intelligence behind those predatory eyes—genuine cognition, but filtered through instincts and drives entirely alien to your human understanding. The alpha's nostrils flare, processing the complex pheromone signature radiating from your runic tattoos.

It doesn't attack. Instead, it shifts its bulk, lifting one massive clawed paw and gesturing—unmistakably—toward the building behind you. The Silk Grotto. Then its head swings westward, toward the Red Light District beyond the forest's edge. The gesture is crude but deliberate: direction. Information.

One of the subordinate Stalkers rises on shaky legs, its body still glistening with post-coital fluids. It releases a low whine that sounds almost... submissive? The alpha responds with a sharp vocalization, and the subordinate settles back down immediately, obedient to hierarchy.

Then the alpha does something unexpected. It opens its mouth—wide enough that you see the rows of serrated teeth, the thick tongue coated with fluid—and exhales directly toward you. A plume of hot air carrying scents: sex, blood, something chemical and artificial. Warning? Threat? Or something else entirely?

The creature's gaze holds yours for a long moment before it closes its eyes, apparently dismissing you entirely. Content. Sated. No longer interested in hunting you—at least not this moment.

But the message is clear: whatever you're looking for, the answer lies deeper into civilization. Into the Red Light District. Into the Silk Grotto itself. The Stalkers know these territories. They move through them. And they've just suggested—in their own brutal fashion—that you should follow the same path.
