The Trainer's Secret
The elliptical hummed beneath her, a steady mechanical rhythm that matched nothing inside her head. Two days. Forty-eight hours since the taste of Alicia had faded from her mouth. Forty-eight hours since she'd stood in her office, leaning against the door, feeling more alive than she had in years.
Her legs pumped. The display ticked upward—calories, distance, time. Meaningless numbers.
Every time her eyes drifted closed, she felt it. The ghost of fingers. The echo of a tongue. The memory of Alicia's thighs trembling against her ears. She'd come to the gym to exhaust herself, to burn through the restless energy that had kept her awake both nights, touching herself in the dark while Tom slept beside her.
It hadn't worked.
"Stacy!"
She looked up. Derek waved from the free weight area, his voice cutting through the drone of machines and clanking iron. "Let's hit the free weights. You've been on that thing twenty minutes."
She stepped off the elliptical, her legs slightly unsteady. The burn in her muscles felt good. Grounding. She followed him to the squat rack, grateful for the distraction.
They worked through sets. Lunges. Rows. Shoulder presses. Derek pushed her hard, his voice a steady stream of encouragement and correction. She welcomed it—the focus, the exhaustion, the way her body screamed instead of her mind.
They finished a brutal set of goblet squats. Stacy leaned against the rack, chest heaving, sweat dripping from her chin.
She caught her breath and looked at him. "Hey, do you think I'm finally ready for the advanced class next week?"
Derek wiped down the barbell, not looking at her. "Certainly. Your form is perfect."
The word landed like a bullet.
Her body reacted before her mind could catch up—muscles slackening, spine softening, her gaze drifting to a fixed point on the wall. The familiar fog settled over her thoughts, warm and inviting.
No. No no no. Not here. Not him.
Her internal voice screamed. This wasn't Alicia, who had her own secret to protect. This wasn't Tom, who would never notice. This was Derek. A trainer at a public gym. People were everywhere—on treadmills, at the cable machines, lifting weights twenty feet away.
I have to stop this. Right now. I can just shake it off. Pretend I zoned out.
She looked at him.
He was still wiping the barbell, his broad shoulders shifting under his tank top. His arms were veined and strong. He had that confident, easy way of moving—the kind of man who knew exactly what effect he had.
The thrill pierced through her like a blade.
The risk. The absolute insanity of this. If I let this play out—if he actually does something—
Her debate lasted less than three seconds.
She let her body go limp.
Derek turned around. "Stacy? You okay?" He stepped closer, his brow furrowing. "That was your last set."
She didn't respond. Her eyes stared through him, fixed and empty.
He waved a hand in front of her face. Nothing.
He looked around. The gym hummed with activity, but no one was close. He glanced back at her, his expression shifting from confusion to something else. Recognition. A slow grin spread across his face.
"Whoa," he whispered.
He tested it. "Stand up straight."
Stacy's body snapped to attention. Her spine straightened, her shoulders squared, her hands falling to her sides.
His grin widened.
"Okay," he murmured, almost to himself. "Okay then."
He stepped closer. "You're feeling a little dizzy. You need to stretch. Touch your toes."
Stacy bent at the waist, her hands reaching for the floor. Her shorts pulled tight across her hips. From any angle in the gym, she looked like a client finishing a workout.
Derek moved behind her. His hands found her hips, adjusting her stance. His fingers pressed into the curve of her waist, sliding down to her lower back. "Hold it there. Good stretch."
He walked around her, his eyes scanning the room. When he reached her side, his hand brushed against her breast—casual, fleeting, the back of his fingers grazing the fabric of her sports bra.
Stacy's internal voice howled. He's touching me. In public. Anyone could see.
The thrill was sharper than anything she'd felt with Alicia.
He circled behind her again. "Your alignment's off. Let me fix it." His hands gripped her hips, pulling them back slightly. His body pressed against hers for a fraction of a second—his chest against her back, his breath warm on her neck. Then he stepped away.
Two men walked past, nodding at Derek. He straightened immediately.
"Okay, good stretch." His voice was professional, easy. "Let's do some cool-down stretches on the mat over there."
He guided her to an empty mat in the corner, partially hidden behind a column. He had her lie on her back.
"Hamstring stretch," he said, loud enough for anyone close to hear. He lifted her leg, pressing it toward her chest. His other hand rested on her thigh.
Then it drifted.
His fingers traced the inside of her thigh, casual as breathing. They reached the junction of her legs and pressed firmly against her gym shorts. Through the thin fabric, she felt the heat of his palm.
Her hips twitched involuntarily.
He held the pressure for a moment, his eyes fixed on her blank face. He glanced up to see his next client walking towards them. Out of time, he released her leg and stood.
"Alright, you're done for the day. Great workout." He leaned in close, his lips nearly touching her ear. "Wake."
Stacy blinked.
She shook her head slowly, feigning confusion. "Whoa. Sorry, I think I pushed it too hard. I got really dizzy for a second."
Derek smiled, all professionalism. "No problem, happens all the time. You're good. Go get some water."
She grabbed her towel and walked toward the locker room, her legs trembling. The cool air hit her flushed skin. She pushed through the door, threw her clothes in a locker, and practically ran into a shower stall, the last one at the end.
She turned the water to hot and stepped under the spray.
The water cascaded over her, but it did nothing. She pressed her palm against the tiled wall, her forehead resting on her arm. Her body was a live wire. Every nerve ending remembered the brush of his fingers, the pressure of his hand, the absolute vulnerability of lying still while someone touched her. Not her husband.
Her hand slid down her stomach.
Her fingers slipped between her legs. She was soaked—slick and hot, her body already aching for release.
She bit her lip.
Her fingers worked quickly, desperately, circling that swollen peak. Her mind replayed the gym—the moment he'd pressed against her from behind, the way his hand had lingered on her thigh, the confident, predatory grin he'd worn when he realized her state.
The orgasm hit her like a collision.
Her knees buckled. She pressed her palm against the wall to stay upright, her body shaking through the pulses, a muffled cry caught in her throat. The water beat down on her back as she rode it out, her fingers still pressed against herself.
When it passed, she stood there, breath ragged, steam curling around her.
She finished her shower slowly. Dressed. Walked to the mirror.
Her reflection stared back through a film of fog. The same woman who had gone to a hypnotist show. The same woman who had let her best friend touch her in the back of a car. The same woman who had tasted Alicia's climax on her tongue.
But different.
The game wasn't contained anymore. It was out in the world now, unpredictable and dangerous. Anyone who knew the word could trigger her. And she would let them. She had no idea when or where it would happen again. She couldn't wait to find out.
She wiped a streak through the fog on the mirror.
Derek's grin surfaced in her memory. The way he'd tested the boundaries. The way he'd pushed just far enough in a room full of people. The way his hand had pressed against her like he owned the moment.
She knew, with absolute certainty, that she would be back at the gym next week.
