The anatomy of control
Sweat was still cooling on Michael’s skin as he caught his breath. Brianna lay beside him, wrapped in silk sheets, wearing an expression of satisfaction that bordered on adoration. Absolute power wasn't just about altering gravity or rewriting laws; it was about the way he now filled every inch of the room, transforming the bedroom into a sanctuary of lust and control.
The silence following their ecstasy was broken by the shrill ringing of a smartphone on the nightstand. Michael frowned. Few people had the audacity to call him at a moment like this.
He swiped his finger across the screen. It was Barbara.
"Michael? Can you hear me?" Barbara Gordon’s voice was urgent, charged with that analytical precision she would never lose, regardless of age.
In the background, Michael could hear the sound of mechanical keyboards being typed on at high speed. Barbara wasn't alone. Her mother, Jane Gordon, was by her side. Jane was a living paradox; thanks to the same regenerative serum that kept Alfreda in a state of perpetual youth, she looked thirty, yet possessed the stern gaze and authority of someone who had seen Gotham burn and be reborn countless times.

Jane—who had now assumed the role and responsibilities of commissioner—answered the call in a firm voice.
"Michael, listen closely. We’ve just detected a massive anomaly in the security systems of Blackgate Penitentiary and Arkham Asylum. It wasn't a technical glitch. It was a surgical blackout."
"Hello to you too, Mother-in-law," Michael replied with a cynical smile, leaning back against the pillows. "What happened? Did the world end and someone forget to tell me?"
"Don't joke about this, Michael!" Barbara exclaimed. "Several highly dangerous female villains have escaped. We’re talking about Poison Ivy, Dr. Victoria Fries, and Dr. Horror. They didn't just leave; they took equipment with them, and from what I can see on the security cameras, they walked out as if they had a free pass."
Michael felt a familiar tingling in his fingertips. He already knew the answer. He could "feel" the plot unfolding across the city, as if Gotham were a chessboard and he could see every piece. "It was Odette," Michael said, his voice now cold and resolute.
"How do you know?" Jane Gordon asked, her voice laced with suspicion.
"Because Odette doesn't lift a finger without wanting to create chaos she can control. She didn't free those women out of charity; she freed them to create a distraction or to build an army. She’s trying to consolidate her control over the city."
There was silence on the other end of the line. Eileen sighed—the sound of someone who knew her son-in-law was a problem, but also a necessity.
"If this is true, this city is going to turn into hell in less than twenty-four hours. We need a plan—Michael, or Brianna... or rather, her alter ego, Batwoman—but the police are in a panic."
Michael glanced at Brianna, who was watching him with a predatory smile, knowing exactly what was happening.
"Don't worry about the police, Jane," Michael replied, ending the call as his eyes glowed with a divine and dangerous light. "I’m not going to stop Odette. I’m going to let her think she’s won... so that her fall will be even more satisfying."
He stood up—his nudity no longer a concern—and, with a simple thought, clad himself in attire that radiated power. Odette’s chess game was sophisticated, but Michael now owned the board, the pieces, and the very air she breathed. "Brianna," he called out, his voice echoing with the authority of a god. "Get ready. We’re going to pay Odette a visit. And this time, I want her to feel the exact moment she lost everything."
