The Arkham Shadows Agreement

Chapter 29 by Perversidade3

Droplets of moisture dripped from Arkham’s gray ceiling, echoing through the reinforced corridor where the meeting was taking place. Odette wore a suit and a top hat, maintaining impeccable posture as she sat at the head of a brushed-steel table. Standing in an imposing stance beside her was her most unusual henchman: an orca clad in a tailored tuxedo, its watchful eyes scanning every movement along the perimeter.

Across the table, Huda Strange adjusted his round glasses, an analytical, calculating smile fixed on his face. She was the cog that kept the operation running—the perfect intermediary between the Asylum’s secrets and Odette’s external interests.

Around the table, the most dangerous minds—now reimagined as peculiar female versions of themselves—awaited the proposal:

Poison Ivy: She crossed her arms disdainfully as toxic vines danced lightly between her fingers, testing the security guards' patience.

Dr. Victoria Fries: She radiated a glacial chill that misted the air around her, keeping her blue eyes locked on Strange, demanding answers regarding her cryo-technology.

Dr. Horror: She smiled unsettlingly; the patches of skin stitched together with surgical precision shifted as she tilted her head, fascinated by the fear permeating the room.

Two-Face: She twirled a scarred silver coin between her fingers, dividing her attention between the light and dark sides of the negotiation.

The Negotiation

"Let’s get straight to the point, Huda," Odette began, her voice cutting through the room's tense silence. "Batwoman has been causing a lot of trouble lately, and Arkham’s corridors are getting too cramped for so many brilliant minds. I’ve come to make a proposal that benefits everyone involved."

Huda Strange leaned forward, resting his clasped fingers on the table. "My clients here... let's just say they’re tired of the confinement routine and the strict methods of Gotham’s new protector. But freedom—or even better operating conditions—comes at a price, Odette."

Dr. Victoria Fries let out an icy sigh, causing the room's temperature to drop a few more degrees.

"I’m not here for favors, Strange. If your associate wants resources or alliances to throw Batwoman off the scent, she’ll need to fund my cryogenic labs. No ice, no deal."

Poison Ivy let out a sarcastic laugh, adjusting a lock of reddish hair.

"Oh, Victoria, always focused on ice cubes. The real issue here is territory. If we’re going to collaborate on Odette’s plans outside these walls, I need free rein in Gotham’s green zones—far away from that meddlesome vigilante. And, of course, guarantees that no one’s going to spray-poison my plants."

"Or perhaps..." whispered Dr. Horror—her voice a drawn-out, echoing rasp—as she tilted her torso at an unnatural angle. "...we could use fear as our bargaining chip. Let the whole city breathe in our mist while Batwoman tries to pick up the pieces. What do you think, Odette? Chaos is excellent business."

In silence, Two-Face stopped flipping her coin. She opened her palm, revealing the scarred side.

"The coin has decided," Two-Face said, her voice split between a soft tone and a metallic echo. "The risk is worth it. Let’s hear what the breaded orca and her boss have to offer to get us out of Batwoman’s crosshairs."

Odette exchanged a quick glance with Orca, who gave a slight nod. The deal was officially sealed: Gotham’s organized chaos was about to expand its reach. Silence reigned in the reinforced room for a brief moment, broken only by the muffled hum of Arkham’s ventilation system and the heavy breathing of the tuxedo-clad orca, who extended a massive, gloved hand across the steel table.

"It seems we have a consensus," Huda Strange said, flashing a satisfied smile and adjusting his glasses. "The agreement is accepted."

Dr. Victoria Fries crossed her arms, an icy smile of approval playing on her lips as the air around her stabilized.

Poison Ivy let out a triumphant sigh, causing a small black flower to sprout from the table's metallic surface.

Dr. Horror gave a muffled, trembling giggle, nodding in agreement as the patchwork of her form grew taut.

Two-Face pocketed her coin and rose calmly to cement the terms.

"Excellent," Odette concluded, rising from her chair with perfect composure. "From this moment on, the rules of Gotham change. Let Batwoman try to stop us."
