Zoe, on a girl's night

"Girl, seriously you need to get laid."

Zoe sighed. She sloshed the remnant of a fruity drink around her glass.

"No good results on the apps. Guys are just fishing around for sex."

"Try girls. " said another of her friends.

"I went on a few dates with a woman, but it just didn't go anywhere."

The blonde woman sighed. She looked at herself in one of the bars' mirrors. A beautiful young woman looked back. Zoe knew if she just wanted sex, she could certainly get it. But...

"She doesn't want sex. She wants romance. Someone who gets her." Her friend Sarah said.

Zoe exchanged a look with her. Sarah had always understood her best. It was a shame that Sarah was married to a man; Zoe thought Sarah would have been her soulmate, in another life. Not that Sarah could reciprocate her feelings. Her dark haired friend was straight as an arrow.

"How's Mike doing anyhow?" Zoe asked. "Your husband looked stressed when I ran into him. "

"Not that you can talk." Sarah rolled her eyes. "You look like you haven't slept in month. But yeah, like everyone else, he's under the wringer. That project you are all on, it's certainly a big one."

"How hard can building one office tower be?" One of the other women asked.

"Quite hard. God, tomorrow is Friday. After I go home, I'm driving to a cabin upstate and not answering my phone for a week. "

Her friends cheered.

By the time Zoe was home, she was more than a little tipsy. She kicked off her shoes in her apartment. Her bedroom was a mess, so unlike her office. Books and clothes, her two favorite indulgences, were strewn everywhere. She collapsed into bed, her head spinning.

Her dreams were golden, that night. A thousand hands stroked her flesh. She kissed and was kissed in turn, a blur of women. All of them blonde. She awoke a few times, her sleep fitful. Each time sleep found her again, so did her endless lovers.
