What's next?
For What Purpose ?
I know you hate when I start letters with questions like that, but everybody has a process and that is mine. Bare with me! Makes any difference, the purpose the creator of our Universe had to make this universe, and ourselves inside it? Even if you knew that our Universe is the intentional product of someone, our lives, and you could know what the purpose is. Would that be the purpose of your existence? Or the purpose of your existence is what you decide it will be, regardless of what someone else intended, even if that pre-existing someone else is an omnipotent creator?
In that same line of though, makes difference being a human or a vampire? When you try to answer that question I just made to you, about the meaning of your existence. Does that biographic accident, or any other, affects your answer?
There is a theory about us, I do not know how much I believe in it, but I got to it independently before I find out it is actually a very ancient doctrine. Once considered true for the most well-educated vampires. According to that theory, vampires are as old as language, and not by accident.
You see, language does not happen in the brain. The physical structures we can poke and cut are merely a receptor to language. Language itself is an inter-dimensional process. We have evidence for that, but let’s not go into detail to avoid digression. That is not controversial.
The controversial part is the necessity for vampires in close proximity to the beings using language. “Close proximity” being likely a couple light years.
To have humans using language you need human-based vampires. For octopus to do the same, or paraquats, you would need a octopus or paraquat equivalent to what we are. Hypothetically, all talking beings in this Universe, and possibly all beings in the multiverse, need their own vampire equivalent.
That theory is impossible to test, unless you can find the beings responsible for create our universe, ask them. And would believe whatever answer they give you. That last part is trickier than the other two, as far as I am concerned.
The other way to test it, would be to destroy all vampires in our world, and take the element of connection between humanity and the multiverse pool of language. Then see if humans keep using language or lose that capacity. Given how hard we are to kill, this project is not practical.
Even without consider the moral implications.
Our vampiric powers, in the blood-seeds, and our vampiric nature, are connected to the multiverse in a strong sense of “connected”. Those things do not follow the same natural constants found in everything else in this Universe that we know. Almost everything else.
The oldest vampires registered are from the same period when language is supposed to have developed. As far as we know.
Still, we cannot be sure.
Now, there is one more element to this, and that is the “Holly Seed”. You know the warlock blood seed, it is a powerful vampiric power, more flexible than most, that allows the use of quote and quote “spells” and the creation of objects that have “supernatural” properties. The Holly Seed is an even more powerful connection with the extra-dimensional aspect of our existence.
Vampires who have and develop it can perceive and interact with extra-dimensional portals intentionally left on our world by some ultra-advanced race. The beings many believe to be the creators of our universe. And some other universes connected to it.
Through those passages those highly enigmatic, and eccentric, vampires can travel to other worlds, in different galaxies of our universe. Sometimes taking small groups along with them.
We have objects of extra-terrestrial origin being negotiated between the vampiric families thanks to that. Things made with technology far beyond what we have here. This commerce has existed for a very long time in vampiric history. The purpose of those trips, and passages, is not know by us. It is a secret to us. The vampires who have Holly Seeds may know more about this subject, but, as I mentioned, they are as cryptic as anyone can be.
The Faded Continent of Atlantis and the islands that used to surround it was once a place where the inter-dimensional studies used to be common knowledge among vampires. Supposedly most races that lived in this continent, humans included, where from other planets. Possibly, some, even from other universes.
I am not old enough to remember any of that, but I have talked with a vampire very old. One who was not from Atlantis itself but lived as a human in an African tribe that had some limited commerce with natives of that mysterious continent.
According to that vampire, was common knowledge among the Nocturnal Courts during his first 50 thousand years that Atlantis and the surrounding islands didn’t existed as part of our planet for as long as the rest of our surface.
This explains why a landmass 25% larger than Australia didn’t left any signs of having existed when it abandoned the surface of Earth.
It was an inter-dimensional land, with living species evolved in different other planets.
The animals and plants from the “Lost” Continent disappeared with it, even those that had migrated to other parts of Earth. Except for the being anchored here by “spells”. We still find descendants of some of those exotic species being kept as pets and trophy by old Vampire Families.
Atlantis was on Earth between 3,5 and 2,5 million years ago. With the archipelago of Lemuria remaining after the continent disappeared. Until as recently as 30 thousand years ago, give or take. However, Lemuria was not entirely in our world, like normal islands are. Since only vampires could find it any time, most ships passing through the place where it was supposed to be without find any land. Except in special days of the year.
Some vampiric families still active and influential today are supposedly from Atlantis itself. This pendant you asked me to investigate. It is supposedly made from the seed of a tree that only existed in Atlantis and Lemuria. The symbol on it is the archaic coat of arms of one of those vampiric families believed to have roots in the Faded Continent.
Unfortunately, they abandoned all contact with the Nocturnal Courts a couple centuries ago. Vampiric tradition and etiquette do not allow me any way to try contact them that would not be equivalent to a declaration of war. And my own family would not take lightly if I decided to take that action.
This is a war we neither need nor want.
I know that is not the answer you expected or wanted. However, not all mysteries are worth solving. Sometimes is preferable to let the **** remain anonymous, than take a step that could lead to a larger scale of deaths. Law enforcement is not an ending goal in itself, just a means to the end of keep social cohesion.
As far as my assistance is concerned, your investigation has reached a dead end. I am sending you back the pendant, with this letter.
Wish you the best luck.

Inside the Box
Cosmic Urban Fantasy
I am following what is turning into me general inclination, of tell short stories that may mix or not but paint a picture of a setting. At first vampires were supposed to be a secondary element, they are not that important in the first chapters. Now, as more chapters came, this is turning into a story about vampires with some other things in the background. In any case, I am dealing with the trope outside the usual biblical/mythic element. My primary frame here is Astronomic Time Scale, and that's where this "Cosmic" in the subtitle came from. I cannot really promise any "horror" and there is some minor light eroticism. Pretty pink glasses most the time. As optimist utopian flavour as I can go. Hope you like.
