Chapter 33 by JackSimth JackSimth

Oopse?

Oops

Adam looks at his girlfriend, who is still sporting a big black rod between her legs, now with butterfly wings on her back, “Why?”

“I just… it felt so good… the deep, primal need… it was…” she swallows, “...I'm sorry?” She considers, “Umm…I can go buy a day after pill?”

I cringe, “Poison immunity.”

Tina frowns, “Abortion?”

I conjure a mundane knife, and throw it at Tina… and the knife vanishes in a flash of light on contact, “Good luck cutting into him with a scalpel.”

“Kill him and revive him again?” The black butterfly woman seems ****.

As I'm thinking that I could actually make that work, Adam speaks up, “Oh, what do you know? Turns out where the rubber meets the road, I am, in fact, Pro-Life. At least for mine. Let's not kill me again, okay?” He walks over to Tina, flies up a foot to look her in the eye, and holds her delicate hands in his feminine, scaled ones as he leans in close, “Besides, we were talking about having a child together anyway, this just… makes the decision for us.”

“And you're really okay with this?” The tall butterfly woman looks deeply back, concern written all over her dark face.

Adam takes a slow, deep breath, “Not really, but… slim pickings. I'll live. Can I count on you to stand with me, come what may?”

Come to think of it, I did include Fleeting Spell come to think of it, so I could maybe revoke the poison immunity? Hmm… but I don't want to interrupt this tender moment….

“Yes my love,” she answers, and kisses him, “Today, tomorrow, and always.”

I'm inclined to let them make out for a bit, but Alice coughs, “There’s the little matter of the man who murdered us….”

“A good chunk of the city. That black blot in reality,” technically a Gloom, but eh, “is going to be miles across, and anyone or anything inside is going to crumble to dust in short order, unless warded against it. The caster is almost certainly fine, but by now the inside of that shadow is going to be nothing but a slowly deepening crater.”

“How do we fight that?” Tina looks at me incredulously.

I shrug, “I can affix a magic suppression field to each of you that leaves my buffs alone. Magic won't touch you, and mundane weapons won't either. If you get close enough to the bastard, he won't be able to do a thing.” I'm assuming a guy… why…

“It will be the guy who killed you,” Adam puts it together for me, “you don't hand out milk lightly, and you mentioned that the murdering **** took a drink on the forms.”

Alice picks up what he's laying down, “That's why we can't find a connection between the mass **** victims…” she slaps her forehead, “...the idiot is just killing people for… what'd we call it, Experience Points?” She shakes her head, “Explains why there were so many so quickly. He wanted power… and he just ‘ate’ an entire city's worth of people.”

I consider a moment, “Anyone got a problem with ‘shoot on sight' here?” Everyone shakes their heads ‘no’, so I continue, “Great! Let's arm up….”

Cloud of Knives is my first pick… because it goes very well with Invisible Spell, Fell Drain, and Fell Frighten: Once a round, a free ranged attack to apply a little damage, a negative level, and maybe a little stacking fear on a target. I also use the Creation Sphere to make bows, arrows, and quivers… which I then enchant with temporary spells beefed up by metamagic so they don't run out of arrows and so the arrows apply all the same effects. Plus, of course, I give them all the archery feats, and as wide an area of antimagic as I can manage (a hundred seventy feet, with Widen Spell). Further, I set each up with a mech suit of mine (due to bonuses I've stacked: I count as tenth level for the Pilot sphere effect)… and of course, I buff the suits up too, and equip everyone with Greater Invisibility.

When we finish our preparations, I Warp us all to the roof, and we take off, flying to the very big, ominous, black sphere that blocks a third of the horizon….

Fight?
