Chapter 28

What is the project?
Familiar
The basement I referenced, of course, is Bungalow 42. I leave all my gear (such as it is, including my phone) in my room upstairs. I actually have a few projects. The first? Cleanup.
Remove Radioactivity is a fourth level spell that gets rid of radiation… but not naturally radioactive things. It's fine for basically everything except the melted reactor itself, and I can duplicate it at will via the I Wish Mythic path ability and ace the caster level check with a Mythic Surge and my per-round uses of Divine Providence: No problem there. That won't do for the melted reactor, however: It would still have radioactive material, and will eventually re-contaminate the whole place. That is trickier, but not by much: Mythic Miracle from Spheres lets me cast Miracle twice a day, and Greater Remove Radioactivity is an eighth level Cleric spell - right at the edge of what Miracle can do safely. Again, Divine Providence and a Mythic Surge handle the caster level check, and the place is clean… one twenty foot radius circle at a time.
Getting it ready, though? That's just ‘connect the second reactor’. Someone went out of their way to make it as close to foolproof as possible. The instructions are written on the side of the reactor, with printed pictures for every step, and they're… simple. Childishly so: Shut down the main power behind me… already done before they evacuated, check.. Lever on the side from front to back on the old reactor… pointless now that it's de-energized, but check. Remove the oversized plug from the old reactor, check. Place it into the new reactor, check. Lever on the side from back to front on the new reactor, check (with a satisfying electrical hum). Turn on the main power behind me… check, and all the lights come on. The next step says, “Repeat with generator three in two hundred years.”
Plenty of time for me to figure out something better than nuclear power.
My next stop? The security room. I want to add myself to the security and…
The view on the monitors makes me pause. The house above apparently has a bunch of cameras installed everywhere. Right now, I'm looking at video of Alice in the bath… it's grainy and monochrome, but wow she's hot. Has it really been that long? I suppose this place is huge… I take a moment to enjoy the view… then get a hold of myself and shut off the screens. Well… one more item on the to-do list.
I take some time and set myself up in the security system down here, get a key card, and look through the maps… nod, and get started on my other projects. I start with using a Creation effect from Spheres of Power: Create Materials, with Expanded Materials and Larger Creation, for giant copper ingots. Fifteen tons per casting, which works out to fifteen thousand gold pieces of trade goods each. Trade goods are usable as cash, and with magic item crafting you just pay up and it's all abstracted… and you can craft without access to a town or anything.
So I build up a supply of copper on the concrete floors of the lowest level of the basement, and get to work on my first project: Summoning a familiar. I settle on a Small Cat. No, not the normal animal. The Improved Familiar from the Catgirl Handbook. It's a standard sized cat that can shift sizes freely between Tiny (the size of a normal cat), and Large (like a tiger). I thought about something more exotic like a Pseudodragon, a Cassian, a Feytouched Creature, or something but… I don't know exactly where the creature is coming from when I use the Conjuration Sphere's Call Planar Creature to get the base creature… and I'm a lot more OK with accidentally **** someone's pet than I am with **** something bright enough to be considered a person.
A spell, little ritual, and after about eight hours of work… I have a now-sentient pet cat loyal to me. Then, of course, buffs: Essentially my full suite, plus several for which I personally have little use. And then, the next step: The Transformative Familiar Mythic ability. I pick a ring, giving my pet an additional form… to go with the numerous Transformation feats, so she can shift into several utility shapes (all Tiny, but the base Transformation feat acts like a blank form, so she can be Tiny to Large in any of a few dozen base forms quickly (all pre-selected via the Transformation feat… and we use Reversion to retrain her base feats for Basic Magic Training and Transformation… so she qualifies for Advanced Magical training (so she has at least a half caster level), the Shifting Disguise feat (so the specific Transformations can look like a lot of different things), the Hybrid Transformation feat (so she can be partway between her natural and selected form), and Extra Magic Talent (so she can have many of the Spheres of Power spells).
Next up? Enchanting my new ring. I have over two hundred thousand in Enchantments I want to add: She'll be a Spheres Implement at max enhancement with several extra Spheres, and there's some things from the intelligent item list I want to grab (specifically a Dedicated Purpose of defending the servants and interests of a specific deity - me - and the dedicated power of a seventh level spell at will: Limited Wish, plus a few odds and ends. This takes four hours. No, seriously: The Manufactory Mythic ability adds twelve grand to my daily progress, Crafting Mastery doubles daily progress if I have the feat (which I can get), the Crafting Creature talents of the Conjuration sphere gets my Companions set up with the ability to double my rate of progress, and I can have as many as I like. So I simply stack bonuses until it no longer matters.
Then? I invest my Legendary Item mythic path ability into her. Eternal Bond and Soul Safe (so she can revive me if slain), Flexible Bond (so she can do so for others), Metamagician (pay for metamagic with Mythic), Returning twice (so I can recall her from across planes if needed), and Everlasting (so those with a temporary bond don't age, eat, drink, breathe, or need to worry about mundane high and low temperatures while she's worn). I stop there, because I have Heirloom as well, and there's a limit to the stacking… but I need to convince Alice to give me a suitable thing first: I need ‘an ancestral relic’ of my ‘house, family, or culture’... and she's about the best choice. Another ring would be ideal, but a necklace would work well too.
I also have the Aegis coming, theoretically, but it's not clear exactly how that's supposed to show up. So for now, I pack my familiar on my hand, and teleport back up to the house….
How does Alice react?
