Chapter 367
by
The Other Guy
Do you find anything or anyone?
Nope you seem, paradoxically, alone
It did take you a bit longer to traverse to the peak of the right headland than you expected. It isn't a sharp climb, though at the end you do need to use your hand to help. You fell onto your face twice during this, both times because you put what should have been your right hand down catch yourself. At the peak you lay on your back breathing for a moment. Not having magic fucking sucks. Also not being fully healed but from the feel of your body at this point the damage left over is very superficial, muscles that haven't fulled re-knitted, and internal organs that haven't quite regenerated from their burning. Strange that you think of those as superficial rather than the life threatening they really should be, you should readjust your expectations.
Recovered enough you get onto your feet and walk to the headland looking over the bay. Nothing, no fire, no buildings just a bay with a forest. Being up higher does however help things. Behind the beachfront forest is a cliff that forms a crescent around the bottom half of the bays curve. It does seem to an island you are on. Or at least you're on a peninsula that connects to the main land behind the cliff face.
You look out over the ocean hoping to find some evidence of Delilah. Someone must have dragged you onto the island but if it had been Delilah they would have hung around. They might have gone looking for food or water but you'd slept an entire day, waking up while they weren't there twice seemed unlikely.
The ocean is clean, waves gently pushed into the bay crashing against the headlands. The rocks down there looked sharp. You landing skills you have, or at least good washing up on shore skills. You have to get off the island sooner rather than later. Delilah might still be in the water so you have to go looking, or she might have washed up in the bay not near you and is looking for you.
You sit down and think. With one hand down you aren't building a boat before you recover your magic, even with your right hand you wouldn't be able to build a puddle worthy boat much less a sea worthy one, but the hand down made you feel better about yourself. Speeding up your magical recovery is vital.
You tried to remember how to speed up your magical recovery. Once more Stephanie's lessons prove invaluable. Sun bathing, food, water and someone to help all work.
That meant you were left to explore the island. Maybe find whoever pulled your out of the water and get some more help. Anyone here might not be used to people, or came here to get away from people, so when they saw you they dragged you out of the water but that was the end of their duty of care. You also needed food.
So explore the island, get food and water, lay in the sun for as long as you can and recover enough to get your wings to scout to ocean for Delilah. Also heal your missing hand. You looked at your stump again, maybe attach a chainsaw too it so you can 'groovy' and be a badass rather than dorky ... you miss movies. Also you are somewhat delirious and should sleep with fingers cross it isn't the water that is making you so.
When you wake up the sun is on you. It's early morning and the warmth feels good, you been ignoring it but you were cold, you probably shouldn't sleep out in the open anymore. Speaking of. You sit up off the grass and feel a sharp pain in your back. Running a hand over your skin you feel little bumps that itch on contact. Of course their are bugs that eat you. Salt water might help with that. Making your way down the headland to the beach was dangerous. Your leaf footwear was torn apart and you slipped and feel the last metre or so, not painfully and the sand does soften the fall, but still punch the ground angry at your self.
Getting onto your feet you head towards the water. Laying your back into it you feel tingles on each of the bites. It is uncomfortable more than relieving but the longer you lay there the less you can notice the tingles. After some time laying there you get out of the water, leave your makeshift footwear in the sand to find some more leaves. When your feet are wrapped you head to the basket plants. They are there and dripping water. Drinking as much as you can then drinking more you feel a lot better. Splashing some onto your back to get rid of the residue salt you blow out a breath and get to work.
The bay isn't huge, it did take you almost a day to get halfway around it but you were slightly more crippled then than you are now. Moving back to the beach you find where you had first woken up. The sand still disturbed by your walking around and body. And, now that you are mostly yourself you can see the other set of footprints leading into the forest. Shame you never picked up tracking in your years in this world.
Following the footprints to the start of the plant life you do your best but really can't see anything conclusive. There is grass but it doesn't really hold footprints. You remember all those broken twig and bent branches from tv shows but that is shockingly unhelpful somewhere that doesn't have small easily broken leaf litter.
Nothing for it. If someone came to you, why wouldn't they walk in a straight line? You walk ahead through the trees and shrubs until you run into the cliff face. Sadly there isn't a cave you can see so you start walking along it, heading towards the side of the bay you hadn't been before, figuring that was a safe bet to find something.
Your stomach growls at you and you stop walking. Your entire life in this world and you'd never go a day without a meal, now you were going two. You looked into the forest. It wasn't big but if there was water their might be food, berries of the hopefully non-fatal variety, maybe some edible roots. Hopefully no animals, you were mostly naked, one handed, injured and defenseless, a bird might take out right now.
You leave the cliff face and enter the jungle. You reconsider calling it a jungle almost immediately but you are really in need of some entertainment. Oh hey new accomplishment, you'e gone a two days without sex. Deliriousness is back. Maybe drinking the water for a second time was a bad idea, or the bugs were venomous in large numbers. A very worrying mental image came to you of nasty wounds on your back. You ran a hand over it and only found the bumps, and now you were itchy.
"Delilah?" You call out to distract yourself. "Can anyone here me?"
You keep calling as you look for food. The lack of birds might suggest there was none, or they just hadn't come back from the sea to roost. Either was bad actually, since both meant there wasn't enough food on the island to support bird life without fishing.
When you do encounter some berries you just stare at them concerned. They look remarkable like nightshade berries, in fact the whole plant looks like nightshade. You aren't even sure how you remembered what nightshade looked like but that is nightshade.
Expect you aren't in your world anymore, what are the chances of two worlds have the same plant both of which are lethal. Is it worth the risk? Your stomach growls and feel light headed. Actually you aren't. That will probably kill you faster than anything else so just tough it out for now. Maybe you'll catch a fish or something.
Heading back to the cliff face you keep walking along it. As you near what should be the end of the cliff you find a cave. It is dark and you have no light source. The sun is setting behind the cliff so you can't see all that much right now. Sleep now, wake up in the morning and check out the cave then.
You look at the grassy ground and think about where to sleep that won't get you eaten. You in the trees isn't an options. You can't really climb right now and there isn't all that much sleeping space up there. It's either grass, sand or in the cave. You gather some fallen leaves and create a makeshift bed. It's not great but it's off the ground so that's a marked improvement.
When you wake up you are hungry. The sound of the ocean has the suggestion of fish for breakfast but you know you aren't going to catch anything without magic, and drowning after all this seems stupid.
The sun was illuminating the cave mouth so you made your way to it. "Anyone in there?" You call out getting the echo back. "Guess that's a no." You said getting the same echo back, a part of you was honestly expecting a 'No' in response.
You sigh and head inside the cave. The sun provides a bit of light and you spend a bit of time waiting for your eyes to adjust before moving further in. It isn't deep but it curves to the left and right so you aren't going to have much light going deeper. You decided to head left with your left hand pressed against the wall as you do. Walking slowly you try and find something. The ground it smooth and pretty even, the walls likewise. Actually it feels kinda like melted rock the smooth surface with the occasional gap were a bubble might have formed. Maybe this is a volcanic crater, would explain the plant life, fertile soil, enough to overcome the salt. A faint worry that this might not be a dormant volcano makes you swallow nervously.
"Delilah you in here?" You call out halting your movements.
"No." Came the response.
What is that, aside from a heart attack?

Reborn into Calitian
You are reborn into another world of magic and fantasy. How you live is your choice, the consequences are as well.
The world of Calitian is a world of magic whose sentient inhabitants vary from human to decidedly not. You are rather unexpectedly reborn into this world however you do not get the expected god delivered spiel about said rebirth so you are on your own. This should be interesting.
