They become a couple

“Thanks for coming back with me, Gavin.” Chloe smiled as they exited the cabin.

“You’re welcome,” Gavin returned her smile. “A few more minutes and I’d be the one to leave.”

They went down the steps to the lake in silence, neither one of them sure of how to start a conversation, even after being friends for ten years by now. It was a clear night, the light of the full moon being enough to illuminate Silver Lake and the area around it. A fact that Chloe was quick to point out as she stopped by the lake.

“The moon sure is beautiful tonight.” The redhead said.

Gavin came to a halt beside her, staring at the dark waters of the lake while he tried to find the words he wanted to say. However, Chloe beat him to the punch.

“We need to talk, Gavin.” She stated, gazing at the calm waters as well.

The young man sighed. “Yeah, I suppose.”

Chloe half-smiled at his shyness. “We need to decide what we want to be,” She said. “´Cause if we won’t be trying dating, we need to go back to being friends,” She took a deep breath. “I don’t want this ‘silent treatment’ thing anymore, especially from you.”

Gavin felt panic start to rise inside him, the thought of not talking to Chloe again was unbearable to him. However, after the past few days and what they did the previous night, he didn’t want to go back to being friends also. Therefore, there was only one alternative left.

“I guess I made things pretty complicated last night, huh?” He said, nervously.

“A little,” Chloe giggled. “But not too much.”

Gavin half-smiled, taking her giggles as a good signal. “I only wanted you to feel good, I hope you know that.”

“I know, and I hope you know I’ve enjoyed it a lot,” Chloe said. “I won’t say I’m sorry for having passed out, though. I wasn’t ready to do anything similar for you.”

“That’s ok, I can wait,” Gavin said, a little more confident. “I can make you feel good as many times as you want while we wait.”

“Whoa! Hold your horses,” The redhead laughed. “I’m not ready for that too, last night was a spur of the moment thing.”

“Good,” Gavin’s smile widened. “I wouldn’t have the faintest idea of what to do besides what I did yesterday.”

“What do you say, then?” Chloe asked with a grin. “Wanna learn together?”

“You mean you want to be my girlfriend?” Gavin returned the question, in a hopeful tone.

“Duh! What do you think?” Chloe asked. “But if I have to make myself clearer…”

That said, the redhead took the brown-haired boy’s head in her hands and brought his face down for a kiss. It was a slow, soft one, both of them just trying to copy the movements that the other made.

Gavin’s heart almost jumped out of his mouth at that moment. ”I’m kissing Chloe!” He repeated over and over in his mind, as if he wasn’t believing that such a moment had finally arrived.

Chloe, for her turn, was experiencing similar feelings. If she had any doubt about her newfound feelings for her second best friend, these doubts had disappeared by now. She was sure she would never be able to find someone so loving, caring and in awe of her like Gavin. That made her love him even more, evolving the feelings she already had for him as friends.

At last they had to break off the kiss, identical grins plastered over their faces.

“For the record,” Gavin said, breathless. “That moon has nothing on you.”

Chloe laughed and Gavin took advantage of that to pull her into another kiss, one that soon became hotter than the first one when Gavin tentatively slipped his tongue inside her mouth. Chloe complied and opened her mouth wider, sending her own tongue to get acquainted with his.

The redhead nodded and then Gavin extended his hand to her. Chloe smiled widely as she let him take her hand in his before they resumed their walk back to the other side of the lake.
