7, civil war (post-war report)

When the wish was made to save the planet, such a complex issue couldn't be handled cleanly; it needed to be addressed in a way that kept humanity's military leaders occupied, disrupting control by leading private interests and their hold over the people. In this way, even if it led to a total and complete meltdown of society, fossil fuels would immediately cease, and the planet could heal from this disaster. So, with this mindset, the genie decided to sow discord amongst humanity, but only in a way that mitigated potential nuclear involvement, leaving only really one option: civil wars. So, going over various historical examples of humanity, the genie decided that the best option for this would be race wars, as true and proper gender wars hadn't happened in anything but fiction, religious wars were often bound by profit or short-term goals, and traditional wars between powers could potentially just expedite greenhouse gases and leave far more devastation. As such, that only really left a race war, but seeing as the races were fairly settled, the genie decided to just transform people into new races and bring over beings from other worlds, as well as simply creating entities with complex backstories. In doing so, the world was thrown into chaos as social order went up in flames in the face of foreign beliefs and standards that were completely alien to Earth. In a matter of seconds, hands were flying as the genie fanned the flames in poorer or more religious nations, while deciding to give the richer ones some interactions with antagonistic races that made the transformed and similarly non-humans into enemies, all while dumping guns and swords everywhere. After a week, people had already divided up cities or 'purified' towns, along with creating camps, with the actual actions and results differing greatly and numerously, but having a simultaneously large yet underwhelming number of people gathering together despite these new races. That percentage of people crossing races was at 30%; most in the countryside areas were either wiped out, became isolationists, or started killing most other newcomers and the changed. Meanwhile, larger factions in both rural and urban areas were segregating people, with only a few forces that could make a meaningful impact deciding to embrace everyone, while also monitoring any unharmonious elements.

As one would expect, this brought a lot of bloodshed, dropping the population at the time from 8 billion (pre-wish) to 11 billion (post-wish) to 3 billion (post-wars). In 200 years, that number was only brought up to 5 billion. Lands that were once filled with nations and hundreds of millions were now empty, leaving either no people at all or a few small settlements, which was extremely disproportionate to the bloated regions in places like Europe, northeastern and northwestern Africa (not the centre of north Africa), New Zealand, and Panama. This reset was a rare chance for humanity to reflect, and although, just like in real life, they would've gone back down the road to repeat their mistakes, the genie was still here, completing the wish, so he possessed people or pretended to be mortal men and women as he shifted mankind to looking inwards, knowing that, even if they did grow to retake the planet and move onto the stars, at least their society would tend to its people, as he had them shape policies and doctrines that focused on long-term gains, ensuring there weren't problems down the line. Housing, big businesses, the health of the planet, and many other things were prioritised, as the **** of humanity would mean the **** of the world. Not because we're that important, but because we'd drag the world down with us.

Regardless, because of the genie's actions, humanity has a vast world with ancient battlefields and ecosystems that are finally recovering or have grown back better than ever, saving the world and making it richer.
