Trouble Brewing

“What is this place?” Vivian asked as they arrived at what appeared to be a dilapidated office building on the edge of town.

Jane turned the beat-up pick-up truck they were in off. She then turned to her friend. “Home.”

“Home?”

“The only one that maters.” Jane then opened the driver’s side door, indicating for Vivian to open hers to get out as well.

Vivian timidly complied and followed her friend inside. They soon arrived in a shabby looking lobby that clearly had seen better days.

“This is your home?” Vivian asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Well the second floor is,” Jane confirmed. “Trust me, it looks better than… this.”

“O.K,” Vivian said, unsure.

Without saying another word, Jane presses the up button for the elevator, the doors immediately opening. “Come on.”

The two enter the elevator, standing side by side as the doors close.

“So,” Jane started. “Are you and Haley… doing O.K?”

“I mean, we’re close in age, and have always been close. But ever since our mom, well its… its been hard.”

“How close in age are you?”

“Were literally both 18. But we’re not twins.”

“Irish twins?” Jane asked.

Vivian rolled her eyes at this. Yeah, I guess that’s the correct term. It’s always been weird.”

“That just makes you unique. Still, its tough not having quite the same connection… especially after what you told me. Jacqueline can help you here.”

“Jacqueline?”

The elevator bell dinged before Jane could elaborate. The door opened to reveal a large room filled with shelves, stacked high with various boxes with images of electronics which looked new. There were also several teen girls moving around said shelves.

“Holy…”

“Yeah… come on, let me introduce you to the others.”

Vivian quickly followed behind Jane into the room. She briefly paused to look back over her shoulder before before continuing behind her friend.
