Crafting a story

“Poppy? What are you shouting for?”

From the three mushroom houses came four more fairies, each a distinct color from the other. One fairy, green hair curly, placed a finger to her chin.

“Who’s she?” The green fairy asked

Poppy flew forward, pulling Kelly along and nearly causing him to stumble. “It’s awful, Kay, just awful. That idiot wizard has gone too far.”

A fairy with short red hair sighed. “Poppy. That doesn’t answer the question.”

Poppy pulled Kelly into a spin, little sparks of her magic making him rise up and then gently return to the ground as she put her hands on her hips. “I KNOW. I’m getting to that. This is Kelly. Someone captured her in the woods and sent her to that jerk in a bottle.”

A sleepy-looking fairy brushed back her blue hair that reached her knees in order to see. “Really? She’s from outside?”

Poppy nodded. “Right, Mina. That rotten magician stole Kelly’s wings! Poor girl barely escaped at all!”

The final fairy, one with a golden ponytail, stood with her arms crossed. “And…she’s in your dress, why? I spent weeks making that for you, Poppy.”

Poppy flinched, but quickly shook her head. “I promise it’s for noble causes, Cece. That weirdo took her clothes!”

A disgusted chorus of displeased reactions came from the fairies. Kelly had to admit. Poppy was nuts, but she was very persuasive and set up a believable lie.

“So, I offered to lend her a hand, a place to stay.” Poppy grinned. “But you know what I think? I think we should find a way to get rid of that dumb wizard once and for all before he finds out about our home.”

Cece looked Kelly over, flying up to him and fluttering around with a finger on her chin.

“She looks cute in the dress. I like a shy girl coming out of her shell.” Cece finally smiled. “Welcome to the neighborhood, Kelly.”

Kelly nodded with a nervous smile. “T-thanks.”
