With a specific goal in mind, Runa began searching the Count’s belongings. The first thing she did was go to his desk, which had nothing atop it. But when she went through the drawers, she found a half-written letter, likely in reply to Hal Jacobs. It included a note that would be sent with the artifact containing information on how to activate it, the range of the effect, and a drawing of the artifact with labels.

The artifact was a ring with a blue diamond, and upon twisting the diamond and pointing it at someone, it would fire a beam of light that petrified the victim. It could only be used once per month, as it needed time to recharge between uses, but otherwise had few restrictions.

Given it was a ring, the Count likely had it on his person. After all, he might use it in an emergency.

Runa checked the rest of his desk and found no sign of it. He could have it hidden somewhere, but her gut said he had it. And she had to get her hands on it. Fortunately, Runa did have experience stealing rings off of noble hands. Count Hines had many people speaking to him at any given time, at least during this party. If Runa could approach him, she could steal it and destroy it. But would she pull it off?
