The Infinite Branches of Time
Interlude
A few months after the end of season 2 Captain George Stacy would die in the line of duty in an incident involving Spider-Man(Aka Peter Parker) this event split New York and the whole of the world in two, some argued that if Spider-man hadn't been there then the good civil servant wouldn't have died, they demanded more restrictions and oversight for superheroes, the other side argued just the opposite, that Spider-Man being there had saved lives that would have been lost if he hadn't intervened, and that, although tragic, the death of the officer had nothing to do with Spider-Man and was instead a risk of being a police officer in New York City.
The discourse also caused the 3 major superhero groups of America to fracture, The Avengers disbanded as some members took Spider-Man's side and other's became major voices for new bills to be passed around Superhero activity, this caused them to split into groups known as Ironmans Avengers and The Champions, the Fantastic Four Distanced themselves from both groups, though they did continue being superheroes in a far more scaled back capacity, and the X-men, who mostly disappeared from the public eye, though some members seemed to have completely quit the team after this.
Peter Parker took the blame on himself, he had felt bad after what had happened to Harry's father, but ultimately Norman had caused his own death, this was different, Captain Stacy should have lived, he should have saved him, and now his other best friend was suffering because of his failures as Spider-Man.
Gwen Stacy left New York City without a word to Peter and with only a few words scrawled on a scrap of paper for Harry 'I'm done' and neither of them heard from her until they started college.
