Chapter 26 by BlackMonosh

Discuss professional stuff. Really professional

Kurenai’s jaw tightens, the muscles in her neck pulsing as she fights to rein in the restless energy you have stoked. She is an expert at genjutsu—at manipulating reality—but here you are, forcing her to inhabit a reality she finds increasingly difficult to navigate. After a long, agonizing silence, she sets her tea cup down with a sharp clack.

"You’re right, of course," she says, her voice regaining that familiar, clipped tone of a Jounin Commander. She sits up straighter, smoothing the front of her simple robe, though her knuckles remain white. "The tactical implications are... significant. If the seal can be tuned to specific frequencies—say, the unique vibration of chakra-infused weaponry or the displacement of air from a Body Flicker—it would make an infiltration mission into Konoha virtually impossible."

She leans forward, her eyes narrowing as she enters "sensei" mode, though the flush on her cheeks hasn't quite faded. "However, the sensitivity you described poses a massive risk in active combat. A single flash bomb or a sonic jutsu would likely cause a total nervous system collapse if the user is under the effects of that seal. How do you propose we mitigate the sensory backfire? Or is it a 'glass cannon' technique by design?"

You nod thoughtfully, as if you aren't currently enjoying the sight of her internal struggle. "The mitigation lies in the chakra dampener drawn at the base of the skull. It acts as a fuse. If the input exceeds a certain decibel or lumen count, the seal breaks automatically to prevent brain hemorrhaging."

"I see," she replies, her gaze tracking the movement of your throat as you swallow more tea. "And the duration? Last night, it seemed to persist even after you stopped direct chakra infusion. Does the ink retain a 'memory' of the user's signature?"

"It does," you say, standing up to clear your plate. "It feeds off the user's own adrenaline. The more excited—or panicked—the subject becomes, the stronger the seal's effect. It’s quite elegant, really. It uses the body's natural fight-or-flight response to power the detection grid."

Kurenai stands as well, helping you clear the table. As your hands brush over a discarded plate, a visible shiver runs through her, but she doesn't pull away. She maintains her mask, her breathing shallow but controlled.

"An elegant piece of work," she murmurs, her voice a bit lower than before. "A pity it’s so... difficult to test in a standard training hall. Most shinobi lack the 'discipline' you seem to value so much."

She turns toward the kitchen, her back to you, her voice trailing off. "Is there any other... professional development you'd like to review tonight? Or have we exhausted the curriculum?"
