Charmander gets demolished

You may be a rookie but you know your type matchups - and you know that you're at a disadvantage here. Your best shot will be to get aggressive and hope to get enough hits in before Charmander gets overwhelmed.

Immediately as the battle starts you command Charmander to send out Ember after Ember with no breaks. The much slower Geodude can't dodge the barrage of fire very well, so it has to stay on the defensive and just take the hits. For a while it looks like your aggressive strategy is working, chipping away bit by bit while preventing your opponent from retaliating.

But after about a minute sustaining these aggressive attacks, it becomes increasingly clear that Geodude is not being worn down as quickly as I wanted. Instead this high-energy flurry of attacks have only succeeded in one thing - making Charmander completely exhausted. The stream of fire attacks which was initially almost continuous now has noticeable gaps. Geodude has more mobility now, adjusting its positioning between attacks, readying itself for when Brock will order the counterattack.

When that counterattack does come, it is decisive. Geodude throws out one Rock Tomb and your exhausted Charmander has no hope of dodging. The arena goes silent as you return your knocked-out Charmander to its pokeball.

You don't scream out in anger or collapse in despair. In fact, you barely react at all, standing there dumbfounded. When your brain finally processes what the next step is, you begin to hyperventilate, your head whipping all around you as you finally notice all the TV cameras that just recorded your defeat. Blue walks up and grabs your elbow to get your attention, holding out his other hand to take your Charmander and Pikachu back. You place the two poke balls in his hand. He shoves them haphazardly into his backpack then pushes you towards Brock.
