Chapter 316

The Other Guy
What sort of trial is this going to be?
An actual one
"You have been accused of banditry, leading an armed **** against my people and a slew of related crimes." Queen Aurora's voice booms out to be heard by those furthest from her. The magic she is using to do so is surprisingly complex for what it is. Appearing as an intricately woven pattern before her face giving her a glow. "Do you dispute these crimes?"
Next to you you felt Mary's hand graze yours. You looked at her from the corner of your eye and saw a look of pride on her face. Her aura told you she'd loved the acclaim she had received from the people on her parade and she was looking for another round with you.
The bandit looked at the Queen and Mary with a sneer, aside from the fresh scars she was rather beautiful, her clothing was a simple brown tunic and pants. Her hair had been the victim of fire, singed to her scalp on the right side while to her shoulders on her left. She had bright blue eyes, darkly tanned skin and her wrists bound with metal. The metal held an enchantment, presumably cutting off her magic so she can't attack anyone. "Why bother, you'll kill me no matter what I say. But you won't stop it. I may have been the leader of the rebellion but it won't die with me no matter how grandly you cut my head off." The bandit shouts. Her voice was carried by the same magic Aurora used but the shout made people shake their heads at the volume.
"Rebellion?" Aurora's tone is amused more than anything. "You call it rebellion?"
"To overthrow you and your spawn, yes we rebel!" You looked at the bandit a bit closer. Her aura was filled with rage directed at both Aurora and Mary. How much of that was ideological or personal you couldn't tell.
"No," Aurora shook her head, "a rebellion is not just about killing the Queen and her line. It is about an idea that you could lead better." You aren't sure you agree with that but she is clearly making a spectacle. "And how did you lead your people?"
"They fought for their freedom from the nobles that oppressed them." The woman snarled, she'd gotten used to the magic and wasn't shouting anymore.
"What of all the villages you raided? The women you had slaughter, the children you had **** to **** into serving you, the men you had bound and dragged away to ****. How much freedom from nobles were you seeking when you burned Teira to the ground and left eighty six corpses behind?" There was a swell from the crowd, anger at what was spoken of and, from how some of the soldiers reacted, recalled horror.
"And what of the villages your soldier's occupied? How many men were taken as trail trophies, how many children used to keep your camps, how many women pressed into service while their fields rotted and then left to starve when they weren't needed?" The bandit said back. She'd figured out what this was and apparently knew better than try and argue points. Oddly practiced eloquence for a bandit, though that could be your prejudice speaking, if you can be prejudiced against bandits.
"So you do not deny your people actions? You knew of all the horrors they inflicted on my people and thought they were allowable?" Aurora knew how to redirect. It was nice not being the subject for once however.
"We did what we needed to do to survive. To build up and destroy you." There was a long pause as the bandit waited for Aurora to respond but no response came. The pause stretched to a minute and the bandit shifted uncomfortably. Being the subject of every eye and all the hatred she was suffering would be a lot for anyone.
The bandit opened her mouth to speak but was cut off by Aurora. "If you do not dispute your crimes judgement shall be passed." There was a short paused in which the bandit didn't move. "Hanna Diya. You accepted responsibility for your crimes against my people," you got very uncomfortable all of a sudden. You weren't going to watch an execution, "you must now repay the harm you have done. How do you choose to repent?"
"Just cut my head off and be done with it. Victory or **** are all my people will accept." Hanna said glaring at Mary.
"Princess Mary, do you consent to this repentance?" Aurora asked.
Mary left your side, her hand had been gently stroking yours the whole time and its absence was surprisingly notable. She walked up to Hanna and stared her down, she was taller than Hanna and very clearly a fighter but Hanna didn't react. "No, her people **** and **** their way through eight villages and countless travelers, she doesn't get to die easily. Her punishment should be service." Mary waved her hand and her officers stepped forwards. "Who would claim her?" of her officers four stepped forwards. "Then a trail by combat, the victor may claim Hanna as ****." There was a cheer from the soldier's and you heard the dull roar from outside of the palace grounds.
"Hanna Diya, as your repentance is not what is offered you may have a substitute." Aurora shifted on her feet, it was subtle but she moved a bit closer to you, almost protectively.
"A trail by combat." Hanna said. Her eyes looked at you for a moment and you looked at Mary who seemed rather peeved at the interruption.
"Then who of my court will be your opponent?" Aurora stepped forwards, putting herself a little more in front of you. It was only a bit too late before you figured out what she was doing.
"Him." Hanna pointed at you with a triumphant glare in her eye, it seemed her hatred wasn't solely directed at Royalty.
"He's isn't a member of our family." Mary said. The substitute is impossible and-" Mary was cut off by Aurora.
"A member of a Hanun can be considered a part of the family." Aurora looked at you with a neutral expression but you could see the trap. Hanna saw you in armour, she saw Mary's affectionate petting, Aurora's protectiveness and presumed you were important, being a guy you should be weaker than her so even if she can't kill you she can try and hurt the royal pride a little.
You looked at the audience of gathered faces. It wasn't just a trap for Hanna. You had neither a marriage or a betrothal to tie you to Aurora and her family. Having you fight for a part of the family would both display some level of you power, and affirm your loyalty in the eyes of the people. Refusing would be easy, you are a guy and so the presumption of weakness was on your side here, plus Aurora hadn't been firm in declaring you a part of your family.
While you thought you looked over at Ana and the others. Vatarie and Asune looked excited at the prospect of you fighting, though you hope for different reasons. Ana looked a bit annoyed at her mother, she must have figured the trap for what it was as well. Clare was giving you a raised eyebrow and you saw her nod at Hanna, you gave her a flat stare, her determination to have you sleep with everyone really needed some limits because a bandit who led a **** army is way too far. Edin looked nervous but not about much more than being around so many people. Delilah was the odd one out. They were glaring at Aurora, clearly having seen the trap and being far from happy about it being used against you.
You looked at Hanna who was looking as triumphant as ever. A part of you felt irked by that look, knocking her down a peg would be nice but you weren't killing anyone, and killing in this would also count as winning the fight. "What would happen if I lost?" You asked Aurora.
"Then her repentance will be accepted and she will be put to ****."
"And if I win?"
"Then my Officers will fight to earn her as their ****." Mary said. She looked very unsure about this. You figured she'd been told about your strength but in fairness it would be hard to accept.
So you choices are fight and win, and be a part of the **** trade. Fight and lose and be the reason Hanna dies. Or just don't fight, something that doesn't really have any downside as far as you can tall. Well aside from Clare being upset it will probably mean you won't be sleeping with a mass murdering ****.
Fight or don't fight? Win or don't win?
Reborn into Calitian
You are reborn into another world of magic and fantasy. How you live is your choice, the consequences are as well.
The world of Calitian is a world of magic whose sentient inhabitants vary from human to decidedly not. You are rather unexpectedly reborn into this world however you do not get the expected god delivered spiel about said rebirth so you are on your own. This should be interesting.
