The movie starts with the daughters failing to catch a thief in a museum. The thief is wearing a mask and a skintight leather outfit. Though the thief escapes, she is interrupted, and the clay artifact breaks in two. One half gets left behind in chaos.

After looking it over with their mother, they discover it's a map that leads to the jungles of South America. It seems that they have the first part of the map while the thief has the end. They consider what to do but worry about the thief completing the job or perhaps managing to figure things out with the other half. After all, it's almost impossible to find a treasure without the X, but in the modern age, it's not impossible to find the halfway point of the map.

The family believes they may be attacked along the way. But the trip goes surprisingly smoothly, surprising the characters and the watchers. When they reach a generic South American country, they meet a local guide.
