What's next?
Jill and Julie
“Well well well…look who it is,” Julie said with a scowl as she accidentally rammed her shopping cart into another person’s.
“Sorry I don’t speak skank…” said the other woman with a matching scowl.
“Gawd it seems that four years of college really did some good for your personality, Jillian,” Julie said with a sarcastic tone.
“At least I went to college, dumbass. What did you end up doing again…oh yeah, that’s right! You chose to be a burden to your mom.” Jill said with a cackle.
Julie unsuccessfully fought back tears as she said while sobbing, “Wow…that’s even low for you…My mom passed away years ago…” Julie began to walk away but Jill grabbed her arm to stop her.
Jill shifted her tone and expression, “Wait…your mom died? I’m so sorry, Julie…I-I didn’t know…”
Julie wiped her tears as she said, “It’s fine. She got real sick after senior year and I took care of her until about two years ago when she ultimately passed away. I’ve been by myself ever since…”
Jill actually came out from behind her cart and gave her high school rival a hug. Julie was shocked by the surprise contact and returned the hug to someone she had hated for most of her young life. “How about we start over fresh and pretend this is the first time we met?”
Julie wiped her tears and smiled as she said, “I’d like that very much. Let the high school drama be left in high school.” The girls were holding their hug a little longer as both girls realized they were hugging in the middle of the super market and quickly let go. Both women were blushing and awkwardly stood there, unsure of what to say next.
Jill finally spoke as she asked, “What are you doing after this?”
Julie said, “I don’t have any work today so I’m probably just going home. What about you?”
Jill smiled and said, “I have a free day as well. Maybe we could catch up for a bit?”
Julie smiled and said, “I would love that. Let me give my address and we can meet up in about an hour?”
Jill returned the warm smile as she put in Julie’s address and said, “Let’s call it a date!” She realized the connotation and quickly stepped it back, “Sorry not a date. Just a hangout…or just a chit chat…I’m just gonna stop talking now…”
“You’re cute, Jillian…” Julie said with a chuckle as she quickly covered her mouth and was turning crimson red. “I’ll see you there!” She said as she quickly scooted her cart away.
Jill smiled and stared at the embarrassed Julie that was fleeing. Something made her heart flutter when she was called cute by her but she didn’t think much about it as she remembered to finish her shopping. She needed to hurry up to make sure she wasn’t late for the “date” with Julie.
