The Sister

Emily was leaning against a wall, her arms crossed and her eyes studying me. I didn't know what to say, or even what to think. I was terrified.

Henry has told me a lot about her, including the time she put someone in the hospital when they tried to rob her.

Needless to say, she's a badass.

I tried to speak, but all that came out was a squeak.

"Rosemary Flowers. The richest and most popular girl in the school, is dating my nerdy little brother," she said. Um, it almost seems like she did some research on me.

"You know, usually when the popular girl starts dating the nerdy guy, she's using him to get good grades," she said.

There it is. The stereotype I've been hoping his family wouldn't assume. I love Henry, but most people wouldn't see that.

They'd see a dumb popular girl using the nerdy guy.

"I'm not like that. I love Henry," I said. Emily stood over me, and I felt very small.

"You should know, my brother means everything to me. If you hurt him, I will make your life hell," she warned me, making me take a few steps back.

Then she smiled.

"But you're not going to do that," she said. Uhhhhh, what's going on?

Then she laughed.

"Wow, would you look at this. The queen bee of the school is shaking in her boots. I wish I got a video," she said. I kinda just looked at her with a blank expression.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you. My parents don't know, but I've tickled it out of Henry that you got suspended for defending him. That alone shows just how much you care about him," she said with a warm smile. Um, so I guess she's not going to kill me.

"Thank you?" I said, I unsure if that's what I'm supposed to say.

"You don't have to be so nervous, I already like you. Although I will say, if you were a little older, I'd be all over you," she said slapping me on the back. Right, I almost forgot that she's gay.

"Come on, let's get back to dinner," she said, leading me forward.

I didn't know it at the time, but I just made a life long friend.
