Chapter 9 by Verdant_Hatchling Verdant_Hatchling

"Cheers to him."

Five Months Later

Desmond and his crew had reached Beaver Island, a significant military base he’d been stationed in many years ago, and as they were docking at the port, he had a relatively clear space right upon the dock, as the group departed the ship, and slowly entered the military base, which seemed to have been abandoned.

As the group entered the base, Desmond, going through over a dozen rooms, finding no bodies, no signs of life, absolutely nothing signifying that anyone had been there in many years.

But as they went further inwards, they saw a Vault door, labeled, ‘89-BI’, and as they looked about the exterior vault, Desmond spent an hour breaking through the security of the Vault door, it slid open, revealing an empty Vault, seemingly suitable for life, but completely void of any signs of it.

As the group entered the abandoned Vault, Desmond searched the entirety of it, finding not a single person in sight, which highly shocked him, but it’d make a really good home base for a while, so he got everyone settled, and shut the Vault door.

“Well, this’ll do for a good bit. Welcome to our new home.” As he said this, unbeknownst to him, Evelynn had already snuck behind him to leap upon his back, as she was holding him gingerly.

“That’s good, we can get to know each other better here…” A rosy cheeked grin had been donned upon her face, as she laid her head against his.

“Yeah… We will.” Desmond had acquired his own rosy cheeks, as he was highly unaccustomed to physical contact at all, as decades of **** and trauma had far suppressed any social instinct or acuity he’d ever had before, though he hadn’t really had any to begin with, to be honest.

While searching the Vault, he’d noticed it was fully stocked, dozens of guns and an ammo production line that was constantly producing bullets of many variations, and it was just deserted?

Desmond was heavily inquisitive on the downfall of the Vault, maybe it just hadn’t been staffed. That would make the most sense, in his mind.

“Lucky for us, really…” Desmond said, as he walked over to the bedroom he’d set Evelynn up in, as he asked, “How ya’ doing?”

Wrapped in a lush blanket, Evelynn laid upon the plush bed, as she laid passively staring the direction Desmond’s voice had come from, she replied, “I’m doing good, because of you…”She had a wide grin on her face, as she shoveled her face into the blanket, “Come here, Desmond.” And then, she patted the spot beside her.

Desmond then walked over to the bed and sat on it, beside her, as he closed his eyes, breathing in, and out. In and out.

“Hey, Desmond…” She stopped for a second, before emboldening herself, “Have you ever had sex?”

“Huh…” Desmond was balking in embarrassment, luckily, she couldn’t see it, as he was babbling wordlessly for a moment, before admitting it, “No… I haven’t. Any time it came up, I… I just saw blood. And that usually ruins the mood…”

“Well. Same.” She was then silent, as she laid her head against his shoulder, patting around the bed for a while, before she found his hand, as she held it tightly, snoring after a few moments together, as she daintily fell on his lap, drawing a bit of discomfort to Desmond, but he didn’t move.

But Evelynn, as she was snoring away, laying across Desmond’s lap, her eyes opened slightly, as her arms moved slyly to grasp lightly at Desmond’s legs, a sly grin on her face.

Desmond had his arms stiff, far from the figure which was most obviously caressing him, unable to comprehend whatever was occurring.

An hour later, Desmond had fallen asleep, arms uncomfortably stanced as far from her form as he could keep them.

Evelynn, still awake in Desmond’s lap, grabbed his face, before lining it up with her own, cursing her own inability to see it, as she leaned him inwards for a kiss.

"Good night, love..."
