Chapter 11 by zewesman zewesman

“Whaaaaaaaaaaat? I would never want to do the thing I’ve been planning since you entered high school to do!” Gerald said in the most guilt voice ever.

Driving to the Future

“So, are you excited?” asked Scott as the group drove to the mansion.

“Oh. Em. Gee! Did you, like, really ask that, Scott?” asked Kitty in a mocking tone.

“Kitty! It is a valid question,” Jean told the younger girl.

“Like, can you two have a kid already?” asked Kitty. “That way you’ll stop acting like our parents,” she said in a huff as she crossed her arms and turned away.

“No, it’s ok. I’m less excited and more anxious. Never really been away from home. So this is gonna be all new for me,” admitted Chris.

“Just don’t piss off Storm and you’ll, like, be alright,” Kitty chimed in.

“Storm?” asked Chris.

“Ororo Munroe. She can control the weather. One of the most powerful mutants and one of the most kind hearted women I know,” Jean told her. “She’s like a sister to me,” smiled Jean.

“She sounds like a nice woman,” Chris said.

“Unless she gets mad at you for no reason whatsoever!” pouted Kitty about an event that Chris clearly knew nothing about.

“You deserved that, Kitty,” countered Scott.

“Nuh-uh!” she replied.

“Kitty, you were filming people inside the mansion without permission,” Jean said in a motherly tone. “You knew how that was going to end,” chided Jean.

“I was, like, trying to let people know we live lives like normal people!” she argued.

“Nobody is arguing against your intentions, Kitty, it was your actions that we were upset with,” Scott told her. “If you would have come to any of us and suggested it, we would have told you to do it,” Scott said.

“Like, I didn’t think you would!” she replied back.

“Yet, what are you doing weekly?” asked Scott.

“….Posting videos of us living in the mansion…” Kitty said in a meek voice.

“We aren’t as tyrannical as you and some of the others think we are, Kitty,” Jean reassured her.

“Kitty, pay attention to your six! Kitty, watch your back! Kitty, fold your laundry!” Kitty said in a mocking tone that sounded like Scott.

“Don’t leave your laundry scattered about in the laundry room, Kitty!” Scott told her.

“Like I was tanning! I was gonna get it after!” Kitty explained to Scott.

“Kitty, it’s a shared space. You have to be considerate to others,” Jean explained to the younger girl.

“Ugh! I knooooooooooow! But the sun was reeeaaally nice that day!” Kitty tried to explain.

“As long as it doesn’t happen again. Ok, Kitty?” Jean said to her in a calming tone.

“Yeah, yeah, I know Jean. Like, I won’t leave my clothes in the laundry room,” Kitty agreed.

“Sorry about this, Chris,” Jean apologized to the newcomer to their group.

“No, it’s fine. I always wondered what it would be like to have siblings and I feel like living with you all will give me that opportunity,” Chris told them cheerfully.

“Haha, well that’s one way to look at it!” Jean told him.

“But that is a good attitude to have,” Scott told them both. “He’ll be a great member of the team,” he said.

“If he so chooses, Scott,” Jean said to her husband. “You don’t have to be an X-Man if you don’t want to, ok?” Jean said as she turned to speak to Chris.

“I gotcha. I want to wait and learn more about my powers before I make a decision. Who knows, my powers may not even be useful in combat,” Chris told the two.

“While that is true,” started Scott, “you don’t have to be on the combat team, remember? We have search and rescue, disaster relief, things like that. The Avengers ask us for some help every once in a while. That helps keep us on the public’s good side,” Scott told him.

“Ah yeah, you did mention that earlier. So I could meet like Iron Man and Thor if I joined the team?” asked Chris, a bit starstruck at the possibility of meeting some Avengers.

“Like, those two are sooooo full of themselves. Cute as hell but, like, nothing upstairs if you know what I mean,” Kitty told Chris.

“Kettle, meet pot,” Scott said in a dry tone, which got a chuckle from Jean, Chris, and Piotr.

“Oh. Em. Gee! Ruuuude!” Kitty said in a huff as she crossed her arms and looked away. The group had a good laugh at Kitty’s reaction to Scott’s lighthearted jab.

“You all seem like a fun group to be around. Like a...a family kinda,” Chris told them. The group looked at each other and gave out a smile.

“Because we are. We are a family. And just like any family, we have our ups and our downs. Our fights and reconciliations. But, at the end of the day, we all love each other and will do anything for each other,” Jean said in a heart filled speech to Chris.

“I look forward to joining this family,” Chris said with a smile.
