Chapter 5 by skim266 skim266

How does her day start?

She feeds the gorillas breakfast

The morning sun beat down on Mackenzie's neck as she stood in front of the gorilla enclosure, a large basket of fruits balanced on her hip. Her heart raced with a mix of excitement and nerves. This was her first day as a zookeeper, and she was determined to learn and take the next step in becoming a future vet. The zoo hasn't opened yet, and her first was to feed the gorillas with fruit. She was wearing her new zookeeper outfit. She wore brown leather boots, olive green shorts, a beige colored jacket with the zoo logo on the back, and a white tank top underneath it.

Mackenzie took a deep breath and stepped into the enclosure. The gorillas watched her with curious eyes, their massive forms looming around the enclosure. She couldn't help but feel a bit nervous. They seem a lot bigger coming up close, and she can't even imagine how naturally strong they must be. She had been warned about their strength and unpredictability, but she trusted in the training she had received. Slowly, she came up closer with a basket of fruits, being as nonthreatening as she could be. One by one, Mackenzie fed the gorillas their favorite fruits. Apples for the silverback, grapes for the juveniles. They took the food gently from her hands, their fingers brushing against hers. Sarah felt a surge of pride as she realized she was earning their trust.

'This isn't as hard as I thought it would,' Mackenzie thought to herself, 'This will be a piece of cake.'

But then there was Congo, the largest gorilla in the enclosure. He sat at the back, his dark eyes fixed on Mackenzie. This made Mackenzie freeze immediately. The presence of this gorilla was unreal compared to the other gorillas. She couldn't help but feel intimidated by this gorilla. She gulped, but she had no other choice.
