Terms with king Biche
After the festivities were over, the next morning I arranged to meet with king Biche. It was us and a few of our guards in the war-room as the king and I sat at the table.
“Before I make this decision, it would be good to hash out terms, king Biche.” I said.
“Indeed.” He threw his arms out “and please, call me Pierre. I think we are beyond these honourifics between two kings.”
“Very well.” Ida to him. “Pierre. And you may call me Fen.”
“Excellent, Fen.”
“So, I think we should discuss with what we can offer each other here.”
“I agree. Of course, you get to marry my daughter. A beautiful young woman. This will ensure an alignment with each other. Although, I feel it will be a friendship in the end.”
“That’s a good start. I can aid you in any war you engage in, counting that you call for the wolvir, and I will send my warriors for you.” I told him.
“And likewise, any war you find yourself in, my troops will be sent for your use.”
“Also, we can offer some steel for your armoury, the steel we can provide is of amazing quality.”
“Very gracious of you. Seeing as I made this proposal I will give a dowry, as it is expected.” He hesitated for a moment, then proceeded. “I’m sure it goes without saying, but with this pact, my kingdom we not see you as a threat. That is, you will not wage war against my kingdom?”
“No. You have my word. My wolvir will not raise weapons against you.”
“I’m glad.” He sighed with relief.
“Do you see us as a threat?” I asked with intrigue.
“You see, Fen. The wolvir are now known to be **** to be reckoned with. And no one with half a brain wants war with you. Another reason, besides my daughter’s wish, was to ensure that we become allies so you do not set sights to conquer our lands. With the stories and the victories you’ve secured, I would find it difficult to fight your warriors with my troops.”
“I am a little flattered by that. I didn’t know that you saw us as a rivalled kingdom of ****. And one more thing.”
“Yes, Fen. Tell me.”
“Your ships are a marvel, I wish to be given the knowledge on how to build them. I want a navy as grand as yours one day.” I tell him.
“If this marriage goes ahead, and that your word is bond. I will ensure that we teach you and help you build a fleet.” The king agreed.
“Then with that.” I rise from my chair, and Pierre did the same. I held out my hand. “I accept in marrying your daughter.”
The king smiled and grasped my open palm, and we each firmly shook them.
“You won’t regret this, Fen. You have made a powerful ally. And you have made my daughter very happy.”
We wrote out a marriage contract, each with our signature and Pierre with his seal. I needed one of my own. So, I drew a fairly good interpretation of the seal I had in mind for my wolvir kingdom. A wolf head, and a crest moon in the background. I explained that the wolf would be in a field of grey, and the moon and wolf head to be coloured in black.
We both laughed and shared a drink together.
“When will the marriage take place?” Pierre asked me.
“The next full moon, as is tradition for my culture.” I told him.
The next full moon was scheduled to be in just two weeks from now.
