Rosemary needs to meet someone

You slide out from beside Rosemary on Shasta's bed, landing silently on your toes. It won't be the first time that you left a lover with an empty space beside them, but you're not going far. A shower in Mary and Brian's bathroom, a change of clothes, and a big glass of water puts you in shape to walk the fence and check around the house, inside and out.

Everything seems in order. Nobody has bothered Rosemary's van. You walk down the long driveway to the cluster of mail boxes sharing a couple of sturdy posts, belonging to Brian and Mary's neighbors on the hillside. You trudge back up to the house and past it, to the corner of the property where your cell gets a good signal, and send a text to Mom that you caught up with friends and got a ride back up to Mary's.

When you get back inside, Rosemary is sitting at Mary's kitchen table, wearing one of Shasta's old T-shirts, busily making lists on some of Mary's angel-themed note paper, twisting a tress of her coppery hair. and scanning a calendar on her mobile phone, scowling at the zero bars of signal.

"What'cha doing, Rosemary?"

"I gotta get in touch with someone. I have a tour coming up and my guitar, well, long story. I gotta head back to town or at least get some signal."

I forgot, huh? Rosemary was always ten steps ahead, but sometimes she'd drop something along the way.
